I'd love a European one as I might actually manage to get there for some of it. However I have an additional restriction now - not only do I have to work round my job I have to work round school holiday dates as little AF is in school nursery from September (so Waterloo anniversary dates do not work ). Can't volunteer to even think about running it because of him as well.

What are the dates for Waterloo? Is it June? (I know, bad fangirl) I can't remember.

The anniversary is the 18th June 2015 (the anniversary of Quatre Bras is the 16th) which (I think) is a Thursday, so the re-enactment will be on the following weekend, I believe, which is the 12st/22nd - it's usually the closest weekend to the actual anniversary.
There's nothing doing at Waterloo this year because everyone's gearing up for the bicentenary.

Yes, I think the previous discussions were that we would all go but it wouldn't have the trappings of the usual con.
I don't have a problem with foregoing goodie bags etc. If people want to do things individually, that's cool. It's fun for the organizers to plan things, but it does add a layer of expense and trouble that might hold other people off from offering to host. And if we approach it more like a reunion than a "convention" there will be less "cha-ching" noises going off in the hotel people's heads. A large suite with a large TV would work out great.
As for renting a house: it should be understood that anyone wanting to attend would have to pay a non-refundable upfront partial payment. I don't know how else it would work out.

If it's the weekend. I'd have to travel down on the Friday evening and return to be home on Sunday night.

Just popping up here to put in my two penn'orth, I would be interested in attending a UK gathering in 2015, but can't offer to organise this time, I'm afraid. It was nice to end my captain's career on a high, and neither my ageing nerves nor my family commitments would permit a third term of office! I also don't have the funds to cover deposits and cash flow that I used to have before we retired. I can't say about the Waterloo extravaganza across the Channel, though. A lot would depend on timing and cost. I'll keep my eyes on this thread to see what folks come up with. I'd love to see you all again, and meet some of the folks who weren't in Portsmouth in 2002 or 2005. PTP EDIT: Just realised 18th. June, 2015 is LittlePal and Tall Paul's actual tenth wedding anniversary! Depends if they want the day to go with a bang!

EDIT: Just realised 18th. June, 2015 is LittlePal and Tall Paul's actual tenth wedding anniversary! Depends if they want the day to go with a bang! LOL! I think it might be a problem for the Yanks, since this is in full summer. As Bucky pointed out, that means plane tickets will be really spendy. We were fortunate that Trafalgar took place in shoulder season! But a lot of the usual crowd might not be able to participate because of the expense. Maybe we should think about and discuss more something Stateside for next year, unfortunately.

I think we have plenty of time to do research and such and see if Waterloo is viable for people. I imagine this may be a small group due to the expense. If those in the States can't attend, maybe an "informal" gathering would be an alternative?
And if it turns out a full blown con would occur stateside in 2015, I would like to keep Niagara Falls on the table.

We do need a British con. I'd take up the mantle but I have so much going on this year through until october that I don't think I could dedicate the time needed to organise everything ready for 2015. I think if we don't want to do Waterloo and still want to do UK/Europe that we look at somewhere in the UK and have it Autumn half term which is usually the last full week of October. Liverpool would be an awesome place to hold it. My problem is time at the moment or rather lack there of.

I would love to have a British con. I'd also love to be able to helm it, but while I have time at the moment, I don't have the necessary capital for such a venture. I would willingly help anyone who would like to organise it, though. (Can't help being a little prejudiced and thinking that Chatham would be an awesome place for it, for the history! ) SF

I would love Liverpool as I could use my in-laws as a base ... and have someone to look after with little AF. Wish I could offer to helm but it is just an absolute no-go at moment given little AFs arrival.

Wild horses couldn't keep me from a Liverpool gathering! I might be able to make Chatham or Portsmouth or similar, but I do believe the majority of the Brit. Bunch are further north, and a cluster of six of us actually on Merseyside, so a Northern moot might work best.
Maybe a casual gathering would be a good idea, and drop the concept of a full convention. If we all just agreed to meet and have dinner somewhere, that wouldn't be too much for anyone to organise, and we could make our own arrangements for accommodation and hang out for a couple of days in the city. As those who've been to the Mersey River Festivals in the past will agree, it's a city well worth hanging out in!
If it could be in Liverpool and was just a dinner and a couple of casual days' tourism, I'd be prepared to look into possibilities for us, as I know the area and have loads of local advisors!
Any interest?

Might need to be a little longer than a couple of days to make it worth our coming up, for those of us located further South. A long weekend would be perfect, especially if someone could loan me a place to swing my hammock put my sleeping bag. I've only met you guys the once and that was back in 2009 (cripes! That long ago?!) when I came up for the Tall Ships on the Mersey, so I'd love to meet up with you all again. I even come fully equipped with my own stripy shirt these days, too. SF

Just adding that I will be located in the UK next year as well, so I would love to help organise something, though as a student cash flow is a problem for me too...
