Just realized. Was also going to do a historic house in that part of town.
AArrrgghh!! There's just TOO much good stuff to see! The lady at this house told me there's a guide from the UK who's a big UK history buff and I should ask for him if I set up a tour.
Ok I think I'm going to extend the con to a week! Just for sightseeing. Decisions, decisions....
I'm going to have to do some creative scheduling.

Tricia and I did some winery tours on the way back from Buffalo to Toronto after HH2004. I drink wine once in a while but if there are other alcohol choices, that shoots to the bottom of the list! But the wine making process is quite interesting.
Sue -- I bet if you kept a list of stuff that you can't fit into the regular schedule, then maybe those coming in early or staying after may want to check them out?

The wine tasting sounds interesting! I'm always looking to learn more.
The hotel looks great. That last photo is Whist Central, methinks (UNLESS THEY CHARGE FOR IT JEEZ STILL BITTER)

Bucky - will definitely list other options on the website. Will also have some great tour books St Augustine puts out in your goodie bags.
Mags - the last pic is the breakfast area right in the lobby. Once breakfast is over, it's empty. Not even going to mention anything to the hotel about using it for card playing. I think if we just casually take seats there it won't be a problem. It's open to all the guests. They have a drink dispenser with water and lemon available all day. Since they redid the lobby there's also a "wine tablet" where you can pour yourself a glass in the lobby, at a charge of course.

Sorry that was a typo. A wine table. They have a small table set up with different wines to purchase by the glass or bottle.

What? No wine tablet? I was hoping for that, too! ;-) You can you the tablet on the table to choose the wines.

If you look at the new photos of the hotel lobby you can actually see it. It's in the first photo, bottom left hand corner.

It all looks great Captain! I went on a tour at the winery I believe you mentioned the last time I was there and it wasn't all that. The wine was pretty good though!

Hey! I'm always up for some wine tasting!
In the meantime, for those who would like to know a little bit more about the wine making process, here is a recent blog from my brother-in-law:
www.facebook.com/notes/796246670394970 (I hope this works)
He included some photos, some older than others, like the third picture down: that's me, on the far right, swirling.
All that blending made my hair turn dark!
And yes, I'm keeping track of the port in the barrels. They are excellent right now! But they do need to smooth out a tad. Rather like satin compared to velvet. (I prefer the lighter version).

I got a family suite for Estelle, Melissa and I (yes, Frigate is coming! ) and just checked the hotel website and we get a frickin' whirlpool tub, as well as a mini kitchen! It looks like it could be party central in our room! Now this is one NICE hotel!!!
pamski01 - are you getting the stuff for the margaritas? Who is bringing the blender? If you and Sandra aren't getting a family suite, we can leave the blender in our kitchen. There is a literal kitchen area - can you freakin' believe it?
This is all just too exciting! Anyone else excited?

Actually the other family suite is already booked - by me. I figured the extra room would come in handy with all the stuff I'm going to bring. We may also use it as a viewing room. I still haven't gotten a hold of Spidur to get the projector from her. If I have to rent one, we'll only have the conference room for 2 days. We'll have to us my living room for a third day a viewing. I think we can hook up a DVD to the tv in the living room. The only thing the mini kitchen doesn't have is a stove/oven. I guess they don't want to take the chance of someone burning down the hoteL I can throw a blender in the car if you like. I have one that I rarely use. Not sure if its great for mixing drinks but we'll see. Has anyone spoken/communicated with Spidur lately? Is she on vacation maybe?
