Now that we're over the threashold of the new year, do we want to start thinking about where to have the next un-con?
A few ideas have been thrown out and maybe we can begin to decide where to explore next!
Here is a poll (and we can add destinations in the comments below and add to the poll) if you have another location to suggest.
And maybe discuss the time parameters that might work best for the group - September or October?

All of the above? They all sound good to me.
I wonder if we should discuss changing it to spring rather than autumn? Though I guess we are more likely to have nice weather in the autumn.

Any of the locations would be great and offer a lot to see. It just depends on what people are in the mood for! As for moving it to spring, I don't have a preference. Although if that is the case and it is in the spring this year, the sooner the better on that decision since getting off work is a little more difficult now as far as coverage for my desk. I do know that the other gal on my team has the last week in April booked already.

Either spring or fall would work for me. Might be a little easier to get the time off in the fall though.

I don't have a huge preference for spring vs fall, although if we're going to Quebec this year, it would be great to see the fall colors.

I had to go look it up, but the Quebec idea was brought up to coincide with the RDV Tall Ship event which will be stopping in Quebec July 18 to 23. So if that is a factor, then it would have to be switched to the summer. If not, it is still a cool city to explore.
I kind of agree with Sandra. I will admit that I have grown fond of doing the con in the Fall because we don't get any change in seasons where I live. However, I am open for whenever it ends up being scheduled.

I'm open to either, but I usually have the JASNA AGM around the same time, though I'm not sure if I'm going this year anyway.
And QC is fine with me either for the tall ships festival (which may be expensive and crowded) or the autumn...it is lovely there!

I, too, am for all. I would LOVE to go to Vancouver, BUT, this is Quebec's year. I have to tell Loulou and Mimi about this. I am sure they would love it! Plus, they could be a translator for us.
As for when, Spring or Fall. I like to use my tax refund for our trip. I now and debt free and can do either. Like Bucky and Sandra said, I do like the fall colors, but I enjoy being with you all more. You guys are one of my happy thoughts, when life gets tough. Hugs!
I can say that Summer vacation is for family vacation to the shore and all, so spring or fall, but not really summer.
I was also thinking it would be cool to do Maine one time. That would be a September gathering. I would love to see the Portland Head lighthouse and I looked into some other things around the area that would be cool for us.
I am basically cool with whatever is chosen and think majority rules.

Looks like Quebec is off to a big lead so far. Lou Lou and Minsky have posted on the FB horatians page that they are in (am assuming they mean Quebec City only, right?) I have not seen them since Tampa. The three proposed destinations all require a passport. Don't make the mistake I did last year when I was doing a trip to Buffalo and Canada - didn't realize my passport expired until I actually looked at it. * face palm* Had less than a month to get a new one and had to pay the expedited fee. Oy. Cost me a bundle, but I had no choice!! I have volunteered to do the legwork if no one else wants to.

Most people in Quebec speak very good English, in my experience. In Montreal they will greet you, "Bonjour'ello?" (All one word like that) If you answer "Bonjour," they speak to you in French. If you answer, "Hello," they speak to you in English. It's a good system. Just don't be all polite and say "Bonjour" unless you are fluent in French because ain't nobody got time for that. In QC, they lead with the French, though. But if you reply in English, they will speak English. (That being said, I had an encounter with a lovely woman at a gift store at the Plains of Abraham that was entirely in French on her side...I managed "Merci" and "adieu" and was kind of proud of myself. I would have been fine except for the numbers. I have major issues with grokking numbers in French. Fortunately the till displayed how much I owed, and I trusted l'aimable dame to give me the correct change.) Also, in Montreal I ordered something that had a French name at a sandwich shop, and apparently acquitted myself well enough that the guy behind the counter replied to me in French! By "they" I am referring to service workers, Immigration/Customs officials, etc. That being said, I'd love to see LouLou and Minsky! I won't inflict my horrible French accent on them. I was in Quebec for a long weekend and by the end I wasn't translating signs in my head anymore, so I reckon immersion works. P.S. Autumn this year is fine with me. I am most likely not going to the JASNA AGM this year. Also, I realize that when people are planning for autumn in their head, it's hard to change on the fly. But maybe for future gatherings it can be considered. Or not.

Also, speaking of Vancouver...I just thought of something. Maybe Victoria? It's near Vancouver and veddy veddy British. Might be fun. Vancouver is lovely, though, and likely to have good weather in the autumn.

I like the idea of sticking with fall this year. I like September best, Oct starts getting Into hockey season. 😀 They all sound good, but Quebec City seems like an awesome place to check out. I'd be happy to help with some planning.

Wherever we go, it'll be a blast. It sounds like I need to I need to go about 10 pounds past my goal weight in order to eat in Quebec!!
Do we want to put up a poll for weeks in September then?
