I meant to resize at Photobucket before uploading so will fix that and make the photos a bit larger.

There's something to be said for hotel breakfast buffets - you get to eat food you don't have to cook yourself and not have to drive somewhere to find it. Thursday we Met and Greeted, and like kids on Christmas morning we happily looked through the contents of the HHUS2013 bags Mayhem and Pamski Curious mind(s) wanna know: What did the goody-bags contain? Some Horatio-or Regency related stuff??

Lady B, I edited my post with the group photo thanks to your suggestion.
And the goodie bags had a box of note paper with lovely images of historic houses of Charleston, a bag of lemon tea cookies, an HHUS2013 button (which you can see lots of us wearing in some of the photos), a 2014 Horatian Gatherings calendar, t-shirts for those who ordered them, HHUS2013 pens, an HHUS2013 mug, luggage tag with the South Carolina flag, schedule, attendee contact information and directions to all the activities. I may have missed an item or two. The bags themselves were little string backpacks with the convention logo on the front. You can probably see some of us with them in some of the pictures.

Great photos mmt and Ship! Loved your reports, Ensign! Miss everybody already. Nige and I had a great time! Thank you so much, Mayhem and Pamski. Phizz, I have your goodie bag. We'll meet up soon, okay? Oh, and some would be pleased to know that Ensign Sharky pulled a Stacy with her "I believe the rest are mine" stint at Whist. Okay, back to catching up here at work... Oh, and some would be pleased to know that Ensign Sharky pulled a Stacy with her "I believe the rest are mine" stint at Whist. It was sweet. I had the ace, king, and queen of the trump suite and I saved them til the end exactly so I could do that. It's unlikely to happen again. And I will do Day 5, I promise; just been busy at work.

I wish I had a camera but, alas, did not take any pictures. I keep forgetting I can do so on my phone. I arrived later than expected, due to leaving Orlando late and then getting caught in a 35 mph construction zone on US 17. But I got the ladies from the airport and we checked in and then decided to find somewhere to eat. Found the East Bay Deli, which was really good. Then went out to sun ourselves by the pool. Mags was brave and jumped right in although the water was cold (well, cold for us Floridians!). More came out to the pool and I went to pick up Sandra. We got whomever was already in town and went to Tommy Condon's, an Irish pub downtown, for a yummy dinner. Then back to the hotel to get a good night's sleep. Although a few late arrivals, the Otters and the Cabin~folks, enticed some to have some cocktails in the restaurant bar! Thursday brought the meet and greet in Estelle's room, open the goody bags and then off to our sail in the harbor. We then had a picnic lunch at the harbor and then off to the Citadel for a private tour. It was interesting to see the plebs (is that the correct term?) and what they had to do, especially the pace of their walking. Afterwards, we headed to AW Shucks for some very yummy seafood. Friday was movies in the morning and then off to The Market to do some shopping and exploring of historical and government buildings before heading back to the hotel for the group dinner. Saturday we went to see the Hunley submarine. Very interesting and a lot smaller than I imagined! How they fit all those men in there is amazing. After that, we went downtown and met at Poogan's for lunch. We then toured the Nathaniel Russell house (with a fantastic tour guide) and the Calhoun Mansion. Then we walked down to the waterfront and headed to the pineapple fountain before heading back to the hotel. We dropped by East Bay Deli again to pick up food to bring back to the hotel to watch Amazing Grace. Sunday was the tour of Patriot Point. Then a group found a restaurant on the way to Boone Plantation and then to Estelle's beach house for pizza, The Wrong War and the passing of the telescope. (And forgive me if I get the days and activities wrong -- I can't remember which day we did The Market!). The view from the restaurant at the hotel were lovely. It looks out over the water and downtown Charleston. The group dinner was very good and a lot of food! My favorite thing was visiting Boone Plantation. I found it very fascinating but wish we had more time to explore. There was a wedding taking place right at closing time and Jan and I got to see the bride arrive and watch the nuptials being exchanged. The bus tour around the plantation was interesting and how many harvests and agriculture still exists -- they have their own store that they sell the products at. The Calhoun Mansion was interesting as well, albeit stuffed to the gills with collectables. Man alive did they have tons of stuff in there! Had a great time, especially with my roomies Jan, Gaby and Suanne. It was a pleasure sharing a room with you ladies! And I loved how we had mornings down to a science - no four women could be that coordinated!!! It was nice to see folks that I haven't seen in years - I hated not being able to come to the last 3 cons. Next time I hope they have a tutorial on how to play whist. And I liked the idea of whittling the movie viewing down. It gave us more time to explore. Again -- thanks to Estelle and Pam for such a great gathering. It was a beautiful city to visit and the activities were very interesting. You guys rock!

This is, perhaps, one of the most awesome non-"people picture" convention shots ever. Thanks so much to everyone for their reviews and pictures! Love it!

Would love to hear more details about Boone Plantation. We're you allowed to take pics? Did you get to see all the rooms inside and at the gardens and stables? Which places would you all say are MUST places to see?

Which places would you all say are MUST places to see? You are allowed to tour the bottom floor of the mansion only. You can roam the grounds and garden. They have original slave quarters along the row of trees leading up to the mansion. They also have a bus tour around the plantation that was very interesting. The stables are there, but I did not see that we were allowed to enter. Although, the cats were hanging around outside the barn, one very keen to be pet. Highly recommend the harbor tour -- the guy that did the tour was a former history teacher and had a great presentation.

I should give credit where it's due. I'd walked up the beach looking for interesting things, poking in the sand with a stick, but finding only a jellyfish that looked very much like a breast implant. , and thinking that the land on the other side of that water is Africa. On my return to the cottage-front everyone else had gone inside and I found HH2013 marked in the sand with waves beginning to wash up.

Jamers, I don't remember if photos were allowed but if you go to the plantation website Boone Hall Plantation, click on Special Events then scroll down to Boone Hall Plantation Christmas. Our guide, Bob, was adamant that a December visit is one to remember and after looking at these photos I would certainly agree. Several of the main rooms are included but not the lovely loggia which joins two sections of the house. In either the Photo Gallery or the Video Gallery, look particularly at the photo of the dining room showing the table set with china, the chandelier and two large lit trees flanking a tall mirror. The mirror is something like 15 feet tall and just sits on a small step, not fastened to the wall. When a previous owner was clearing the house he decided the mirror was too cumbersome to move and liable to break so it was left behind. Bob remarked, "Look at the size of that thing!" (Horatians rule!)
