Ahoy shipmates!
Moving on land for a moment, can anyone recommend a good biography of the Duke of Wellington? I am amazed at how little I know of him/how little books I have read on the Napoleonic wars linger on him. Thanks lots!

Richard Holmes' The Iron Duke. Eminently readable history by a military historian who knows his stuff.
Warning: this is the book that turned my best friend into a Wellington fangirl.

Thanks Sharpie! somehow I knew you'd come through on this one. And it's ok. I am sure my bf would welcome the change if I obsessed about the army for once. Lydia

Napoleon and Wellington: The Battle of Waterloo and the Great Commanders Who Fought It by Andrew Roberts is an interesting read as well.......it has been a lwhile since I read it, but the similarities and contrasts between the two were surprising in some ways......including Wellington "collecting" some of Napoleon's mistresses.....bit of a different take on victors looting.....
Cheers

Thanks Liz! def writing all this down. And hehe, Napoleon slept with lots of people, am not surprised poor Wellie picked up some of them. Lydia
