Didn't they just finish a restoration project on her not too long ago..? Hmmm.
Aaaand on reading the article, that was finished in 2002. That does not seem all that long ago! Wow - doesn't time fly!!!

Wow, that's a biggie...I wish them luck! Victory is one of the very few things about which I would be tempted to use the seriously overworked word 'iconic'.

Whoa... good luck to them! She's an amazing national treasure and it would be tragic to see her wither and rot, or let her get so bad they could no longer allow the public on board. Many a wooden building and crook barn are still standing after five or six hundred years, so there's no reason why, with good support and water-proofing, she shouldn't go on and on for another few hundred. Being wooden, though, she is a target for arson, like the poor old Cutty Sark. I suppose she's safer, tucked into the naval dockyard, but it is a worry. (It used to be a capital offence to commit arson in Her Majesty's Naval Dockyards... hehe, bring it back! )

What a great story! So 'Victory' was in almost as much danger on the day of her launch as she was the time 50 Hornblower fans invaded her... twice! Poor carpenter guy. It seems Emma wasn't the only person involved with Nelson and his ship that got cast aside by their Lordships at the Admiralty when they were no longer of import! Thanks for posting this fascinating little snippet, Liz!

I think when the renovations are done, another trip to Old Blighty is indicated.
