I remember Otter saying something about having a moot out west near her. Not sure if she's still interested.
Bucky, I'll be working at a facility in Wildwood. Waiting for a few things to clear before I can start. Hopefully, everything will be in place. It's only 6 months though. I don't have housing yet. Want to make sure everything is a go before signing an agreements/leases.
I hope it works out that you can come. Every time there's a moot close to home you can't make it!! Only when you have to travel far!!
Hope it works out that I can come!! Weekends not an issue, but getting a Thursday-Friday while I'm at the new place may be.

The idea of SF has been kicked around a few times, but the mootability of it all is of concern, considering the high costs of lodging and transportation. That, and, um, the city has deteriorated, according to friends and colleagues who have recently visited. I won't go into it here, but suffice to say, nobody had anything good to say.
Further south of the city, the silicon valley and suburban areas are a lot nicer and accommodations are a tad more affordable. Not a whole lot of history, except for the missions, but it depends on what kind of stuff our group would like to see and do.

Forgot to say...
... Savannah looks good, as do the beach houses! Apparently, there are some beautiful homes for rent in the historic district, too, though most seem to accommodate around 6 - 8 people.
Also happy to share in the cooking. Not sure what the rentals provide, but if it's the same (lack of) stuff as a vacation houseboat, we can refer to my age-old shopping list of provisions to get for the beach house.

Most of the time they provide cooking utensils, pots and pans and such, maybe even some small appliances (BLENDER AHOY), but you do have to buy the food. Also we need to know if bed linens and towels are provided. I've stayed at places on the Jersey shore where they have pots/pans and kitchen stuff, but you have to bring your own sheets and towels.
I think the idea behind Savannah, or the general vicinity, is that during the day at least we might check out some of the cool stuff in Savannah itself, even if we're not staying there. So we should think about staying within a reasonable drive. Unless I'm wrong and it's "veg at the beach" week. But we've never really done that before--we go to places to see the places.

I could attend a get-together during either September or October and would love to go to Savannah or Hilton Head. I’m also interested in renting a house.

As far as the linens, it depends on each rental. Some include them, some don't. Most rentals have a housekeeping charge; the last one we stayed at, we just stripped the beds and put the linens in a bag for them to retrieve. I guess we'll just need to look at the fine print for each choice.
Since I would be driving, I can bring a lot of stuff that is needed (i.e., cooler, linens, bottled water, etc.).
Tybee Island is about 10 miles from downtown Savannah so if you want to stay close and also be at the beach, this is the location we'll probably want to concentrate. The others are Hilton Head (32 miles - but mostly highway driving) and Saint Simon Island (83 miles - making this a less likely choice).

At the beach and close to the city sounds perfect to me! Even my mom, who is legendarily...frugal, shall we say.... opts for the linen service when we rent a place for family get-togethers. We don't want to have to hang around doing laundry when we're trying to leave. Also, Savannah has tons of interesting things to see and do. Remember Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil? That all started with a weekend trip to Savannah. Not that anybody's getting murdered at Mercer House, of course.
