No, Denis Lawson was not in the original series. However, I just watched the episode entitled THE DOOMSDAY MACHINE. The guest star was William Windom. He is portraying a Commodore Decker whose ship is disabled by this device. Decker acts much like our Captain Foster in that he is reckless and flaunting his rank over both Spock and Kirk.

Good episode.
