Hmmmm; maybe. Did Cassie do the Secret Diaries after all three LOTR movies were out? No, because I clearly remember going to see Fellowship of the Ring in the theater with a group of fangirls (including a certain Armadillo who was basking in the City of Brotherly Love for a time) and all of us collapsing into hysterical giggles over the Horn of Gondor and other Secret Diaries stuff.

Went to the Hobbit on Monday with a friend after work. What a phantastic evening! Pre-Christmas time is again what it ought to be! (We agreed on in last year already when we went to the first part.) I was just feeling very - middle-earthly (if there ever was such a word).
I definitely agree with most of your points, QQM (and I was squeeing for another friend to see so much RA in this, I know she'll love it), but I'm curious about your HH moment as I didn't have any. Mind to pm me about it?
Honestly, as I was having a headache and beginning cold, I was glad we didn't go to our regular English cinema (which would show it in 3D and rather loudly) but in a smaller frindge cinema which happens to show OV's on Monday nights. Venue and time noted for the future.

We went last night. They had the 2-D version going in their smallest theater, which is wider than it is long, and the screen is too big and too high for the height and angle of the seats. And the sound system is too loud. We were mighty uncomfortable, which made the film seem longer than it was. We hope to see it again in the big city perhaps tomorrow night, because despite the physical distractions, we were pretty impressed with the movie.
I won't give away any spoilers except to say that there was plenty for the fangirls to gush over. It was definitely Thorin's movie.

Speaking of nerds - did anybody of you knew this to its full account? The first entry is about LOTR. I'd say the film makers are the biggest nerds of them all!

I finally got to see tH:tDoS with my bestest Middle-Earth-Movie-Watching-Pal and we are slain; SLAIN, I tell you. We have our returning champion, hot!pissy Dwarf, facing off against the challenger, hot!pissy Bow-man. Yummmmm. We have cool!capricious Elf-king (who must've been a Slytherin, judging by the hair) smacking down cool!pissy Elf-prince who is not pleased that She-Elf is making eyes at Dwarf-Totty, Brunette. Then there's the Dragon, who is supposed to be scary as hell, but with a voice that is a gilt-edged invitation to sin. Through it all, our Hobbit-hero goes along being his quietly heroic self. (Seriously, the casting for this trilogy, especially Martin Freeman, was absolutely inspired. There is no one else that even comes to mind as potential rivals for any of these roles.) I loved the ending and I hope Peter Jackson winds up the series with something as dramatic and stark. With more closure, certainly, but something very defined; unlike Return of the King, which had about 5 endings more than it needed. And now I want to go see it a bunch more times to pick up on all the details that I didn't catch the first time through. And, um, to imagine what I would do if I had a likely-looking Dwarf locked up in a cell.
ETA: HAH! I was right in thinking there was a PJ cameo right at the beginning of the film. Totally missed Stephen Colbert, though.

Finally saw this last Friday thank's to my Mum coming to babysit. Both really enjoyed it even with the differences from the book - which were mainly for filmatic effect as the book is somewhat pedestrian at times (it is after all a children's story). Knew where the ending was as a friend and I have had an on/off discussion for the last year about where PJ would end this film so he did tell em that but I carefully avoided other spoilers. Looking forward to the last episode - although shall have to wait and see if we think we can leave little AF with a non-family babysitter or not. That will determine timing as suspect my sister will still be unavailable due to her 2 and Mum is liable to be at other end of country till close to Christmas.

We went and saw it last Monday and I have to say I liked it a lot better than part 1. I didn't think I would like the commingling of stories but it worked. Would it have been too much to ask for Aragorn to make a cameo somehow, seeing as you added material? I'm just sayin.' Evangeline Lilly was great. She can act circles around Liv Tyler. Sometimes I think Orlando Bloom went to the Andrew McCarthy school of emoting. They both only use an intense stare into space kind of way to convey their feelings. My niece said Orlando looked old. But he can still move stealthily and kicked ass! I was watching for Stephen Colbert but thought he was on a boat, not a spy on the docks. Will have to look for him again when I see it again. Which will be soon!

Anyone think that PJ will film Simarillion? Yours Aye, Diane Wouldn't expect so. Christopher Tolkien is notorious for his disdain of PJ's interpretation of the old man's work and is very unlikely to sell the movie rights.

Hadn't heard that. Still...interesting idea. Yours Aye. Diane Oh my, yes. Hated it so much that he gave his first interview in 40 years in order to share how much he hated it. I don't think he bears any personal animosity to Peter Jackson, just that he feels that the films are contrary to the spirit of his father's work.

Film poster, I haz one! A friend gave it to me because they'd had it given to them at the cinema as some sort of recompense for a problem with 3D glasses. I don't think I have a frame big enough to display its lusciousness - it's about 28"x42", but I can at least unroll it and drool from time to time. Niiice...
