I haven't seen the movie yet; might have to wait as long as a week to fit it into the schedule. I'd love to hear reactions from the rest of you. Meanwhile, in true Nerdist Synergy, here's a treatise on the physics of dwarves in barrels floating down the river. Physics, you pervs, PHYSICS! We already know what we all think of the physiques of dwarves in barrels floating down the river.

Haha! I saw a female dwarf in the underground a couple of days ago (for the Europe premiere, I suppose). She had violet hair and a bright yellow beard and looked WILD!

Heh heh - I'm seeing the film tomorrow, really looking forward to it, though I might have to close my eyes in some of the 3D sequences!

Ooh, lots to like - a few things not so much, but all in all I enjoyed it more than the first one. In 3D there were quite a few 'duck in the seat' moments, and a bit of dizziness! Smaug the Magnificent certainly is a LOT of dragon... looking forward to seeing it again soon, maybe after Christmas.

For the first time after 4 first night viewings I am having to wait. Mr AF and I hope to go just after Christmas when Granny is back up north to babysit Little AF (who needs a better online pseudonym for here). Got to be a fairly late showing so we can put young man to bed and hope he doesn't display the separation from Mummy anxiety we have been having recently. This us a good sign in many ways (attaching well to me) but also distresses me out a lot.

Some quick reactions: - Bilbo is a badass spider hunter! Sting indeed!
- Way more Thorin than one would have thought from the trailer. This is a good thing. RA is better than ever in this one.
- Smaug was indeed magnificent.
- Legolas is kind of a jerk. His dad is a really big jerk. I suspect certain fangirls will find Thranduil delightful and yummy in a perhaps-you-should-call-me-my-lord kind of way.
- I had a Hornblower moment. It had nothing to do with Thranduil. No spoilers.
- Why Kili Was Made The Hot Dwarf: All Will Be Revealed
- The plot resembles that of the book in only the broadest sense. Lots of original material. The closest thing to the book is Bilbo and Smaug. I liked it anyway.
- They did a great job tying it more closely to LOTR, and also gave a really good reason for Thorin to seek the Arkenstone that has nothing to do with simple greed. I consider these things improvements.
- Not enough Beorn, but EHRMEGEHRD PEHRNIES
- Also, EHRMEGEHRD CLEHRFHEHRNGEHR

As I originally thought, lots of man candy & fish flopping. Did have some gross out moments with the spiders. Adored Legolas, but then always have and loved how he kicked butt. Laughed to myself about the line about Gimili.
Thought Evangeline Lily did a great job. Her and Killi was sweet. Killi, period - ::insert droll smilies::
Lee Pace was hot in his elf costume, role was pivotal, yet small. Yes, character is butt head.
Loved seeing Watson & Sherlock talking. They played around with Benedict's voice. Didn't sound really like him.
Bard & Throin - was basically just in fan girl coma when they were on screen. One word - wow! I do think that Orlando & Lee should play brothers in a movie together. The two of them look alike.

I haven't seen it yet, but nothing was really spoiled for me that wasn't given away in the advertising.
Thranduil was pretty much a jerk in the book, too.
I'd been confusing Bard and Legolas when they've appeared in adverts, so I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that those two actors could play brothers.
We might go see it tonight. You couldn't get near the theater here this weekend, which is a minor miracle because in the past we've almost always been nearly alone when we've gone to a movie.

Thranduil was pretty much a jerk in the book, too. HMSCody Oh, yes. He is very much as he should be--though there is a bit of character motivation in there, as well. Just a bit. I was a little more surprised at Legolas, who is sweeter in LOTR--he must have mellowed over the years. Perhaps a certain Captain made him want to be a better, er, elf? (See? He really is Mr. Darcy.) ETA: It occurred to me also that Legolas might be neurotic because he suspects he is no longer The Prettiest. Also, need to add to my list: - Fili and the knives, LOLOLOLOLOL

ETA: It occurred to me also that Legolas might be neurotic because he suspects he is no longer The Prettiest. I know it was Cassandra Clare's idea originally, but I would dearly love to read The Very Secret Diary of Thorin Oakenshield. (I know, I know. You've got plenty of your own projects without pandering to me. But it would be funny!) "Still the King. But a dragon stole my kingdom. Stupid dragon"

Hmmmm; maybe. Did Cassie do the Secret Diaries after all three LOTR movies were out?
