Finished it late last night. Was not what I expected for the final outcome of the adventure. I'm kind of hoping the author might take on some other adventures and fill in some places left open by the series. =-)

Well, it kind of explains a sudden promotion. Kind of. Ha-hmm. If nothing else, it was fun, and funny.
I finished the book late last night, too. Yeah, it was sort of a funky end to the Jamaican affair, at any rate. It reminded me of the end to the burning of Washington in 1814.
I would definitely read more of this guy's take on Hornblower. That said, he's not Forester, not by a long shot. Then, nobody is.

Wow! I really look forward to reading this. Great tip! I'll check back here when I am through. I am all anticipation. I will be interested to see if the writer can avoid fanfiction pitfalls (paging Lady Mary Sue). That said, I do enjoy a good fanfic.
I think people find certain adventuring characters so archetypal and yet so personal that they wish to see more of their adventures. When something becomes a really good series, we love to see the heor's psyche fold out and we also like to see the inventive and informative action in which he finds himself or even influences. I've been disappointed by some series (Dune after about Book 3; Clan of the Cave Bear - which does have sequels, did you know?). Other's I've liked - Hornblower, O'Brian's Aubrey/Maturin canon.
Thanks, thanks, thanks!

I'm a forgiving soul as well, but just read an incident with Maria last night that kind of extends the bounds of what is believable. hahahahaha! You will know what I mean when you reach that part, it's at about 82% spot on my kindle. I was like....haaa hummmm.... Biki Modern life dialogue: Question: "What page are you on?" Answer: "About 82%."

Clan of the Cave Bear - which does have sequels, did you know? Sadly, yes, I did. I have endeavoured to forget, but have not yet succeeded.

Clan of the Cave Bear - which does have sequels, did you know? Sadly, yes, I did. I have endeavoured to forget, but have not yet succeeded. I read four of the books YEARS ago. It is a type of historical fiction and actually liked them. I have the 5th book that came out a few years ago but haven't gotton around to it. Generally, I liked them. Again, because of the historical fiction. To each his own. Yours Aye, Diane

It was the fifth book that didn't flip my skirt. I didn't even finish it. =-/ I finally got around to posting my review for the Hornblower book at Amazon a little while ago. Someone had written that the author is in fact writing more books for the Hornblower series! I don't know if he is ambitious or crazy?? I don't think I would ever tackle such an iconic hero with so many loyal fans.

But anything that breathes life into the series and genre is a-okay in my book. ;-)

Sorry, Diane--don't mean to be a buzzkill. I found them dees-a-poin-ting. I still like the first one, though.

I read the Cave Bear series back in the early 1980s, and I agree, after the first one they just seemed to spiral... for me. But at the time, I found the first one riveting.

I know he got approval for that Jamaican Affair, but I'm going to assume he would have to get further approval to continue as well. Biki
