We all need some positive vibes sometimes. Looks like Ioan is in need of our Horatian hive mind to send him some really constructive good wishes. linkMy knee-jerk reaction is he needs to get out of Hollywood and onto the stage. Anywhere... Broadway, London, Melbourne... just get out of films for a while and do some bread-and-butter stuff, as the other HH actors have done. Once a guy turns forty he needs to add more character to his portfolio, and the way to do that is in theatre. Word soon gets around if he puts in a great performance, and let's face it, in terms of voice and stage presence, Ioan is to-die-for! Hope his psychologist is good at building confidence, because we want to see a LOT more of him in the future. GOOD LUCK, IOAN! PTP

Horatian hive mind - I like that expression! It was telling that, in the link, he mentioned not being able to act 30 any more - maybe getting away with 35. Age (or absence of it!)-obsessed Hollywood is not the place to be, in that case. A good tv saga would set him up well - there's so much more to life than movies. I hear there's a remake of 'Poldark' on the cards; now if he could work on a Cornish accent... *swoons*

Maybe he should sit down for a heart-to-heart with his old buddy Matthew Rhys, who is working very steadily in TV these days.

Alhough Ioan would be gorgeous, he does seem a little mature for Ross Poldark, somehow. I'm not joining the 'Ioan is getting old' party here, I just think this particular role needs someone with less of a personal stamp, like Ioan himself when he came to Hornblower... someone who can grow into the role and make it his own as Robin Ellis did in the seventies. I think Robin was 33 when Poldark was made, and I do think you need a man firmly in his early thirties, to have the character arc it would need. Casting is everything with a role like that. I also, sadly, don't think Ioan could handle the accent. His Welsh seeps through even when he's speaking standard English in Hornblower. There's always a danger with Cornish that the role could descend into a Robert Newton impersonation! I JUST.WISH.THEY.WOULD.MAKE.MORE.HORNBLOWER!!! He's perfect now for the more mature, moody, self-deprecating and sometimes self-loathing Captain Hornblower. He would just be stunning! Sigh... PS Alas, the 'Horatian Hive Mind' is not mine own invention. The first coiner of the phrase might have been Mags or Sandra? Do either of you ladies recall? PTP

I had a dream about him last night. (no, not that kind of dream) We were at a con and there was a comic book convention of some kind at the same place, and he showed up for Fantastic Four (SO MY DREAMS ARE A LITTLE OUT OF DATE, SO SUE ME) and he found out there were Horatians there and he came over to see us, all excited. HUGS ALL AROUND.
When I win the lottery, friends, there WILL be a Captain Horatio Hornblower movie. Oh yes.
Also, from my really very detached viewpoint (I've always liked him but never been a raving fangirl), he really is getting better-looking as he gets older. Insert joke here about portrait in attic, etc.

If I was having that dream, Ioan would be bouncing about on a space hopper and the Horatians would be chasing him in a WWII ambulance... All my dreams are a bit like that... PTP

Do you know about dream control and lucidity? They are not the same thing. You can have control over your dreams but not conscious control, which is lucidity--you know you are dreaming and can do whatever you want. Anyway, I often have control but I can only once remember achieving lucidity, and I got so excited I woke myself up (that's normal). Anyway, I was in control of this one but not lucid, but I still got kind of excited about directing things and woke up. I hate when that happens. It was a very happy and friendly and fun thing with all my favorite people. *hugs*
P.S. Ioan did arrive on some kind of fancy superhero plane. I am not sure about the details there.

My dreams just rumble on regardless of me. Don't ever recall having any control, and not much lucidity! I LOVE the avatar! Just the ticket! PTP

I agree with PTP's sentiments. If Ioan contracted to appear on the stage in London, Liverpool, New York, Toronto or Sydney, I'd make the effort to support him and show up even if it meant sitting in a Day Seat in the front row.

I've thought for a long time that Ioan has needed a new agent.
He makes a fantastic model.
If he does make a stage appearance, let's keep track of him and see if we can't make an audience appearance of our own.

I was so sad when Ioan seemed to drop off the radar of productions! And yes, if only they did more Hornblower now. Thinking disillusioned 'The commodore' Hornblower, who's seen it all and is beginning to feel it palls.
Smooth sailing, Ioan. In frontline HH lovers you will always have a die hard crew of supporters.
