Other than a tray of veggies with hummus ... does anyone have ideas or recipes for good snacks while watching football?
Thanks!

Fruit. But, there are specifics--Stay away from the high sugar fruits. Watermelons, cherries, grapes, bananas and watermelon. I would also limit the oranges/tangerines. Try to stay away from any type of dip.
Salads--red vingar; sunflower seeds.

Diane

Here are a couple more: if you must have a dip for the fruit, use yogurt--plain, sweetened....
Cottage cheese, Ricotta cheese, slices of swiss cheese. No gooey cheeses like brie.
Air popped popcorn.
If I think of anything else, I'll get back to you.
Otherwise, if you want to save up for a special 'blow-out' day where you get to indulge, this is a good time.
Discretion always advised. Remember: Valentine's Day is around the corner too.
Yours Aye,
Diane

It kind of depends on your definition of "healthy." Roasted ChickpeasThese are not unfattening, but have lots of protein and "good" fats. (and yes, I may have a slight obsession with chickpeas. HUMMUS FOR ALL THE THINGS) I'm thinking nuts, not peanuts so much but almonds, cashews, pecans. Google for vegan ranch dressing/dip recipes. There are tons out there. They mostly use "vegenaise" (which is made from soy) or silken tofu, so if anyone has issues with soy, that's a problem, but again, good fats and protein. For simply lo-cal, there's always salsa and plain tortilla chips, but the latter can be high in fat and salt.

Many might say "yuck" but my personal favorite dip is low-fat cottage cheese with salsa on top. I tried it at a party and it's been a menu staple chez Cody ever since. As a matter of fact, I'm having it for lunch today, with six (carefully counted) Food Should Taste Good multigrain tortilla chips.
Another good "healthy" dip is cottage cheese with sriracha sauce. You only need a little bit of sauce, though, because it's powerful stuff but it's oh so good. You can also put sriracha in mayonnaise for a dip or a sandwich spread. It doesn't add appreciable calories to anything, so I guess you could put it in fat free versions of dip stuff and go that route.
On the old board, SOTL mentioned having had edamame hummus for breakfast once, and she lit a fire under my culinary repertoire with that one! While not technically "hummus" (which means "chickpea" in I can't remember which language) it's still really good, satisfying, and a good, pretty, bright color. You boil up some hulled edamame (I use frozen) and then add the same stuff to it that you'd add to make regular hummus -- fresh garlic, tahini, cumin, olive oil, and lemon juice.

There are tons of multigrain chips and crackers available out there and things like pretzel chips that are not too bad for you.
I was recently at a party where a couple of spoon-fulls of Waldorf salad were served on endive leaves. Very yummy. Another thing I particularly like is sauteed cremini mushrooms and sweet onions in a red wine reduction served on a crostini. I add a little of beef bullion, salt and pepper to the concoction while it is reducing.
Lots of salad ideas that are healthy as well.

While we citizens of Patriot Nation are currently quaffing an elixir made from the tears of Colts and Chargers fans, the followers of every other team in the NFL seem to be subsisting on an uninterrupted diet of Haterade and Scorn Flakes.

Would that be Coors beer? ~Phizz P.S. Now watching San Francisco (so far) beat the Seahawks! I would die of thirst before drinking Coors, and that has nothing to do with the Broncos. It is simply vile and, as the saying goes, similar to making love in a canoe. PM me if you want the translation. As for the game, Talib Aquib was one injury too many for the defense to make up. The Pats had nobody to cover Demaryus (sp?) Thomas and Manning choose his targets accordingly. And they could not get off the field. Letting Denver have the ball the entire third quarter was certainly not in Matt Patricia's game plan. I didn't see all of the 4th quarter, as a friend had DVRed it for us to watch after dinner and apparently didn't set the time long enough. The offense could and should have scored more points in what brief time they had on the field. Those two long bombs in the first half were definite overthrows by Brady. At this point, I'm just hoping Darth Hoodius can draft/sign some guys who can stay healthy all year. On the other hand, given the injuries and the felonious behavior of He Who Is Never Named, I'd have to say that losing the AFC Championship game by a touchdown, a field goal, and what must have been a two-point conversion gone awry is pretty damn good for an off year.
