Greetings all! I'm hoping you may be able to help with something that is REALLY bugging me... About 5 years ago I read a maritime novel, and I can't remember for the life of me what it was. I can't even remember the main storyline, but I can remember a few random points about it. Hoping that maybe someone on here may recognise the novel from the points below (??!!) - included a quote regarding a quarter-master type character... "navigates the way he always has done - by the sway of his bollocks!"
- spelt Jamaica as "Jamaicka"
- towards the end of the book the protagonist (not a pirate) meets and sleeps with a female captain pirate
- protagonist may have been called Matthew (not sure on that one)
- I think the book was part of a series... may have been the second in the series
- Wasn't Hornblower as a review on the back of the book referred to the story as being as good as "a proper Hornblower yarn"
Random request I know but I'm keen to find out what the book was and hopefully read some more in the series!
Any help much appreciated!

Hi A2K and welcome!
Alas, I cannot help you but I would like to read it as well, sounds intriguing. However, you've found the best place to ask. I had a book quiery once (wholly unrealated to all things nautical) and within a short time, someone here could help me. Wishing ou good luck for our own search.

I don't recognize it. But the quote in it.... "navigates the way he always has done - by the sway of his bollocks!" is the funniest damn thing I've read in a long time!!! hahahahahahahaha!!!
If it referred to Hornblower and being a proper yarn, that might narrow it down to a few of the more popular author and series?

All,
Just wanted to close this thread off as I've finally found the book I was looking for...
'Devil of a Fix' by Marcus Palliser... second in the Matthew Loftus series.
Highly recommended!
