I have a question for those of you who have experience with gyms.
I have so far never had a gym membership because I was already busy with my dance classes and other things like Yoga which I did via our Hochschulsport (various sport classes offered by the universities to students, staff and alumni).
However, I would like to do more cardio exercise and a colleague tried to convince me to join her at her gym. So I went there for a free session to try it out and now I am completely in two minds about it: one the one hand, I absolutely hated it and its whole attitude, on the other hand I would like to do some training and the opening hours are great.
There are some aspects though that I am not sure about, so I would be glad to have some other experiences or opinions:
I hate the whole atmosphere there which gave me the feeling that you have to be fit and wear make-up for sport and be properly dressed in the latest sports fashion or you are scum. Is it always like that?
In the classes (Zumba, Yoga, Dance Moves etc.) the instructor is at the front and shows the exercise/steps and the class does it more or less simultaneously. There is no phase when the instructor actually takes a look at what we were doing. Maybe I am expecting too much, but in my uni classes, the teachers used to walk round and correct us to protect us from injuries by doing the exercises incorrectly. This seems to me actually quite dangerous, yoga and Zumba may seem harmless but there are so many lovely things you can do wrong and hurt yourself with... Am I a weird if I find it potentially dangerous?
I am not sure if I should try it our or trust my instinct and stay away ... What is it like at your gyms?
