What is the interest in doing a reunion in Baltimore in October of 2015? In the next day or two I can put together a mini proposal to show what Baltimore offers in the way of a reunion site. I originally considered just a mini reunion, but if there is enough interest, I would be interested in organizing. Let me know. Thanks!!

I think it would be nice for those who came after the first year to see where it all started. Baltimore does have a lot to offer.
I also think that places like New Orleans, Seattle and Portland, Maine could be cool, but the thing is people doing the main hosting. I think since we have changed things to make it more of a reunion, we should still have a hostess or two to help set things up and all, what you think?

I would love to come to Baltimore! But don't feel like you have to do a lot--maybe get a hotel room block, and we'll figure out the rest as we go.

Having missed the original con in Baltimore, I would love to come next year. And I am happy to see and do whatever others suggest.

I'm in agreement with you Mags. Unless someone wins the lottery and treats everyone to airfare ( which appears to be the cost prohibitive factor more than anything else) I don't see it happening. What's the next major European historical event we can plan for? And what locations do we want to narrow down for HHUS 2015? sI wish that would happen, the next big lottery winner being horatian! I know I would love to host an event in the mediterranean... rent an 18th century villa, get a small sailing boat and call it the Atropos... Or actually, as Commodore Hornblower was set in the Baltic Sea... st. Petersburg would be a really exotic place to host an event. I've always wanted to make an Alexander I costume... Now, this one's really more of a dream location, since it would mean a lot of effort on everyone's part (I've never encountered a russian hh fan, but I'm sure there are some!) but it's an idea? And since visas to russia are hard to get.. let me introduce another part of the world, that was part of Russia in the era of Commodore Hornblower... Finland. GANGUT REGATTA I know it's far fetched, but my heart just melted when my favorite fictional heroes were sailing in these waters... There's just reason to have cons in every part of the globe, isn't there? I've never been to cons. Any type of cons, really, so my expectations aren't that high. I'd just love to have something to save money to... and if I get to travel to same place I've never been to, that is a plus. I would just love to meet people who share the same interests, and an event that is focused on something. Pretty much, a weekend dedicated to all things hornblower! but the surroundings don't necessarily have to be the kind of best that money can buy. We've all seen the movies, it's the interaction that is new. What I'm trying to say, at least I don't have to see Hornblower in big screen, I just want to watch them with other people, be that in a movie theater setting, or just in someones living room...

Sandra.. Would love to meet up with you in June....and you might even get to meet little AF I am unlikely to make any US gatherings for a few years for obvious reasons but anytime people come over to thsi damp foggy island they are always welcome to come and find me in 'Gods Own County' Yeah, what she said! It's always a privilege to meet HHers when they come to England, so do get in touch with us, y'all, and we'll do our best, individually or collectively, to get together. PTP

I've been reading this thread through with interest, and would like to chime in with a few things. I agree wholeheartedly that the rigmarole of a full convention has become outdated for the small numbers who now attend the gatherings. We had several very successful Mersey River Festivals where people simply met up to 'do' the Liverpool docklands and tall ships. Everyone booked their own accommodation and, although PolleePal hosted a little party each time, where we viewed some videos of HH and similar stuff, there was no worry about planning, booking suites and equipment, goody bags etc. That can be great fun, but it can also be a huge headache, especially when the suppliers mess you about and move the goalposts constantly... *cough**Holiday Inn**cough*!! I reckon downsizing the deal is about the only way we'll ever have more gatherings in the UK, as we're too small a group here to share the burden of having a different organising team year-on-year, and the two we did took about four years out of all our lives! I note also that there is a desire to get the paraphernalia back to the originators, and if that really is the deal, then I'd like the One Chair to come home to me in England, as it was first given by Paul to HUK 2005. I would be prepared to pay for shipping to Bewdley, so we'll get it sorted out. I'll message you, SueB. It does make sense, if there isn't going to be a convention room or a load of ceremony, to downsize all the bits and pieces, and the One Chair is rather a big bit! I'm afraid I won't be able to get across the Pond in the near future, perhaps never, but I do hold you all in my Horatian heart, and hope that at some time not-too-distant there'll be a nice, low-key gathering in the UK when we'll all meet again. Oh, no, dear shipmate, you'll get over here eventually. I'm counting on taking you through the Cosmosphere one day. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week, but one day.

I would love to go to a con next year, I have the age old problem of being in Education and not being able to escape from work during term time to get to these things. I think August had been suggested? That would be perfect and I would be up for that depending of course on the cost of air fare which is ridiculous!
I love our mini moots in Liverpool! We haven't had one for a few years, it might be time to organise something. It would be amazing if we could do a proper full blown con over here but I know that air fare is expensive and I can fully imagine the complexities, stress and time needed to put on something like this.

Maybe (if our British friends don't mine) we could steal the word "moot" for what we are now calling conventions. It's a nice short word like "con."
Also, I am happy to contribute to the cost of shipping the One Chair back home.
