Used to be on the old Horatian forum back in... 2007~
I think I was under the pseudonym "painajainen"
but at some point fell over board... lost my password and life got in the way.
I live in Finland, and the first time I encountered Hornblower was when Mutiny/Retribution was on TV, early/mid 2000s perhaps, I thought it was a new version of Count of Monte Cristo (starts with HH in prison you know) so I started watching it, even though it was in Swedish channel with subtitles in swedish - so it wasn't perhaps the easiest to watch, I had just started learning swedish and the English they use is full of jargon... but it very quickly grabbed me! And soon I was the happy owner of the DVD set.
And books... oh the antique book shops I scavenged for years! There wasn't any new editions in Finnish, so the Hornblower books I have are my precious, with yellow pages and old style bindings... With a few newer pocket editions in English.
Trying to get back aboard since apparently, once a Horatian (or Bush babe) always one
I fell for Age of Sail so much, that that "life got in the way" is the busy years when I applied for a job as a deck hand - and got it! Best time of my life, and can now tell people I am a qualified sailor... even though "real" skilled sailors would cringe at this poor excuse of a coastal boater x)
Now I have enough sea duty days to become a "captain" - well, a captain for a small vessel, like the boats you see driving tourists around in Thames or lake district, but it's not about the size... but unfortunately my eyesight is on the edge of acceptable so I'm afraid that dream may be too big.
I used to have youtube channels RumInspector (with silly Pirates videos)
and ladyyurico1 (with silly Hornblower videos)
but please note thanks to google taking over youtube, I can't access the channels anymore. They are left drifting there until youtube takes them down...
Really happy to have found horatians again, and hoping to catch up on things!
Haven't had time to watch tv either, I literally screamed when I saw Ioan on a tv spot! Is this Ringer any good? Heard he's done other project recently too!
And I'm sure I wasn't the only one who was in happy tears when Paul McGann starred the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary mini episode...
but where is Bambi? What does Jamie Bamber do nowadays?
