The elves ran up over the dwarves' backs to attack the Orcs I punched the air! So awesome! Richard Armitage is a god and that's all there is to it. AND WHAT ABOUT THE PIG OF WAR. Also, Richard Armitage is just divine. Divine. If he does not get an award for this there is no justice. Lydia

TO THE BATTLE PIGS
I have to say I adored Billy Connolly as Dain Ironfoot. A very small part, but lots of fun. He brought in a great moment of levity when it was needed.
As dark as the film is, there are so many sweet, funny, charming moments that I never felt oppressed. And there was much heroism as well. And
(spoiler)
The final charge of the Company of Thorin Oakenshield was magnificent!!!!

Ah well, Billy Boyd's wistful, sniffworthy song saying farewell to Middle Earth should settle everyone down and send them out of the cinema clutching soggy tissues... Prescient, Poll...that's exactly what happened to me. It's over. I sat in the car crying. And you know, it's not like I don't have all the extended-edition DVDs and can watch them over and over. But it's over and there won't be any more. (I'm fairly certain that PJ is done with Middle-earth.) I can't explain it but I was really upset. I was thinking about my brother giving me The Hobbit to read when I was 11 and wishing he were here to see the movies, though to be honest I don't think he would have liked them as I do. But it's like, these have been in my life for so long. And they still will be, but knowing there are no new films to look forward to was just upsetting.

Um... your spoilers are showing, shipmates. Just to let you know.
Haven't seen the third movie yet, but hoo boy, when Elrond rode on up and then jumped off that horse in the first movie, I started planning my luggage for my move to Rivendell. [fans self furiously] Again, this is where that fantastic bank of smileys would be handy to have.
We're lighting out for the territories to observe the holiday and hope to see the movie in another city next week. Our theater here in town is really uncomfortable: they put a huge screen on the long wall, and have six or eight long rows of seats facing it. So you spend your movie time leaning back as far as you can go in your seat, and come home with a headache and a crick in your neck.
It's the end of an era. December will never be the same. Thanks for the warning, Mags, I'll be sure to pack enough tissues for myself and for the husband.

Enjoyable. I'm watching Richard as Thorin and kept remembering him as Guy of Gisborne. Oh, what a voice!!
So I went home and watched THE LORD OF THE RINGS again.
Your Aye,
Diane

We have been There and Back Again, all this afternoon.
Yes, we did need that tissue. I'll refrain from any spoilers here but will say "Wow." My husband wept more than I did, but he's a good guy that way. He has tender feelers.
And regarding Hugo Weaving in elf-armor: rowr.
When we came home I put Billy Boyd's song in my iTunes library so we could hold onto the spell a little longer.

The magic lives on... that was a clever song, because in one way it felt like an ending to the whole series, but it will still fit in alright for marathon-viewers who want to go on to watch Fellowship afterwards. I echo your 'rowr' too! It was a film rich in 'rowr' moments.
