I have a biggish plotbunny gnawing at me...
I am trying to assemble the board of a court-martial to sit in May/June 1805 in the West Indies, and I plan on getting as many canon characters as possible onto it, which does necessitate bending some canon arcs/series rather out of shape...
Can anyone supply me with the name of Sir Richard Bolitho's flag captain at this time? I think the book concerned is Form Line of Battle! and his flagship is HMS Hyperion, 74, but I don't have that particular book with me to check...
Also, how feasible would it be, in your collective opinions, for Hornblower to be in the area at the time? (If I completely bend the Hornblower canon out of shape, I'm willing to do this in order to get him into said fic, though!)
Thanks, shipmates!

Hi Sharpie!
Your memory served you well...better than mine. I had to go look it up, and I'm still a little vague, but what I have is better than nothing. The book you need is Honour This Day. I don't have that book either (it's definitely not in my favorite part of the series), but I did find a little information for you. The book begins in September of 1804 and ends in 1805. You're quite right, Bolitho's flagship was HMS Hyperion. His first flag captain was Edmund Haven (don't recall what happened to him, but I think it wasn't good), who was later replaced by Val Keen.

Hey Sharpie! depends when in 1805. For most of the year he is in the Hotspur (channel squadron) but in december gets his step to post and gets made to Atropos and sent to Turkey to retrieve the treasure...

I'm thinking May/June ish. As I said, canon is likely to get bent out of shape. Maybe even broken to smithereens... and sorry not sorry about it. (Can't resist the chance to get folks from two or three different canons into the same room together, whatever it takes. I'm bad, I know!) SF

And if you think about it Aubrey and Hornblower DID set out to intercept the treasure ships together, so... Lydia
