Yep, haven't touched a drop of soda, nor a crumb of chocolate or crisps for three weeks. It's not the first time in my life I have "sanctions" like that, but when I was younger I had a lot more willpower and dicipline. And a strict mother to keep me in check. x) A former co-worker of mine told me that she was going on this 8-week candy-boycott, and I said "Okay, me too!" I thought it was going to be really hard, to be honest, but so far it hasn't been. Strangely enough, I barely have any cravings worth mentioning. I think maybe it's because I've eaten lots of sugar peas, which allegedly keep the cravings at bay. So yeah, it's possible to walk into a grocers and emerge with just the ingredients for a reasonably healthy supper. Why did I ever doubt it? Five weeks to go, and I expect it to get easier, actually. If I'm good about exercise, I may be able to buy myself some new spring clothes soon. And a certain boss also agreed to go along with the candy-boycott, but I'm not sure if he's still on the straight and narrow. Ha ha ha!

WinterMoon:
So, are you trying to lose a few pounds?
My weakness is ice cream and milk chocolate. I like other sweets but I am not as tempted by them as I am for what I just mentioned.
Keep up the good work!
Yours Aye,
Diane

Yes, Diane. I am! He he he! My weakness is more about the salty stuff, though. Last year, my boss famously said that only very exceptional people were strong enough to actually diet and watch what they ate, and suggested that the better approach was to not eat at all as far as possible, to avoid temptation. I guess I had to see for myself that I still can follow my own rules.

Not eating at all?! That's utter rubbish to me. Not touching sweets/salty snacks (anything high on sugar, fat and calories) for a certain time is a good way. After a while, when you feel and see the progress, it may happen that you simply lose your taste on these things so that you only eat little (or at least less than before). I'm not saying that my own experience may turn out yours as well but it's a possibility, and you're on the right track. Go ahead, dear!

Keep up the good work! Sometimes we're stronger than we give ourselves credit for.
My weakness used to be Nutella. I used to say that I could go swimming in a vat of Nutella. However, I was pretty good at staying away from it.
When grocery shopping, I'd see the Nutella on the shelf and nod at it but keep walking. If the temptation was strong, I'd take down a jar and then read the ingredients and nutritional information, and almost every time that alone would keep me from purchasing it. But if I just had to have it, I'd get it and just deal with it until the jar was gone and start the nodding all over again. This would happen about every six months.
Last summer, I tried making my own Nutella with roasted hazelnuts, cocoa, and a little sugar. It was really good, but enough trouble that I didn't want to do it more than once in a great while. So I've got a relatively healthy fallback if it's needed.
Fast-forward to this Christmas. My sister bought a jar for me as a holiday treat. She made crepes for breakfast, and I had a Nutella crepe, not a thickly-spread one but enough to really get a good taste -- and it was too sweet for me. I put the jar on the shelf in Sis's cupboard and didn't touch it again. And do you know what? I don't want it any more. I'm not even remotely tempted by it, and pass it in the store without even nodding now.

That's great, Cody! Resist the temptation of the evil chocolate-based spread! I've never actually tasted it, so I can't vouch for how tasty it is.

I hope you will keep us posted on how things go. That's the intent the 'Encouragement Thread' that I post on quarterly basis. Yours Aye, Diane
