Hello I don't know if anyone will read this since the forum does not appear to be active since 2014. I'm hoping it will wake up again.
I have registered on this forum since I've been looking for some time for a forum on Hornblower and other discussions on the ships and battles of the Napoleonic era. I have read the Hornblower books and have the miniseries which I've watched many times as well as Woodman, O'Brian and others.
I have many questions and comments and a forum is a good way to learn what you don't know and discuss what you do know. I hope someone will respond to this.
Bill

Welcome aboard jib boom. We are going through a quiet period at the moment, but there is nothing like a discussion thread to bring people back. Feel free to start discussions or post questions.
It is nice to see new members join the forum.

Hi shipoftheline
Thanks for responding to my post. I was hoping someone would but I am not familiar enough with the site to know how to use it. I only accidentally found your post today.
One thing I would like to know is about the ships in the miniseries. I wonder how many of them are real. I can't imagine that there are that many frigates and other ships existing. I know that they sometimes build them for movies (a la Bounty). Also, they build sections for staging, etc. Does anyone know the answer and where they are today?

That's a good subject. A lot of the ships were models or sets (the Renown was basically a partial ship built on the side of a cliff if memory serves), but some were real. I'll start a thread and some can chime in. I do have some info and I'll post it when I get a chance.
