The FutureLearn people (a UK-based online education company) is offering an online course for free that anyone can take. It's a MOOC -- that means Massive Open Online Course -- and you can sign up, do all the readings, see all the films, learn all the stuff, but you don't have to take tests, write papers, or do any of the interactive discussions unless you want to do so. I've taken two of these courses and they're top-notch and very interesting.
This morning they put up a link to this Maritime Archaeology course that started on Monday, and it's not too late for you to get in on it, if you're interested. And once you create a free account and sign up for a course, you can go back and revisit it any time you like. So if you don't have time now, sign up anyway and go back when you do have time. Here's the link:
Shipwrecks and Submerged Worlds: Maritime Archaeology
They're offering another one on Wellington and Waterloo later, beginning on June 8.
I've been taking their courses for a couple of months, and they don't fill your email inbox with spam. They do announce when courses open, and they let you know when new ones are coming up.

I've actually taken this course and would recommend it.....in fact, I'm taking it again......you can proceed at your own pace, put your own level of effort into it according to how deep you want to go into the reference materials (no pun intended) and I found it very interesting. it takes about 2 hours a week.....
I've taken a number of the Future Learn courses......at the moment I also taking a WWI course and there is one upcoming about Wellington and Waterloo.......
Cheers

I'm taking that WWI course, too, LizMc. Everything I've taken from FutureLearn has been interesting and very well put-together.

I'm taking that WWI course, too, LizMc. Everything I've taken from FutureLearn has been interesting and very well put-together. HMSCody I did week 1 of the WWI course and enjoyed it, although I don't know if 'enjoy' is the right word.....some of those injuries!....too bad it is quite short at only 3 weeks........I'll start the Maritime Archeology course tonight......
