Hi All:
Had the privilege of watching THE DUEL with someone unfamiliar with series. This is really a treat to being present and getting their reactions the first time. I am thinking the following: How are they going to react to Simpson, to Clayton, Capt Pellew? Will they laugh or cry at the same things I did? What will they think of the duel between Horatio and Simpson? Why did Capt Pellew fire his shotgun in order to dispense justice?'
I'm sure many of you have had the same thoughts.
Yours Aye,
Diane

What did the people you watched it with think of it? Besides my Dad, no one close to me cared about it. My Mom thought Ioan was cute and wondered about him in the court case in Retribution, while, at that moment, I only cared about Archie.

Your friend is a lucky lucky thing, getting to watch it for the first time... though there's the downside of that in that there's over ten years of catch-up to do with all the discussions and debates the fans have had over the years...
So, spill: What did they make of it?

They thought it was good story.
My mom always liked Ioan's eyes.

The Regency group that I'm a part of recently had a ladies' retreat and the Hornblower series was one of the movies that we popped in for viewing during the evenings. Many new converts to Hornblower were made that weekend though juliet, Spidur, and I found it difficult to restrain ourselves from shouting the usual convention banter at the screen. We also decided that we would have to wait for another time to give the cliff scene the full ODB treatment. That sort of advanced Hornblowering would have overwhelmed the newbies.

Oh, so true i.e. the part about the cliff scene.

PS Please forgive me but what does 'ODB' stand for? Thx.

Sometimes it stands for: "Of Defective Breeches."

Not to mention the ensuing chaos on the dance floor when they divert their eyes to their newfound knowledge. God, I hope Derf doesn't read this.
