Here is my list of a few worth fainting for:
Dr. Christopher Syn alias THE SCARECROW (from the books!) Sir Percy Blakeney alias THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL.
(Is there a theme there or what?!)
Ashley Wilkes in GONE WITH THE WIND. Nah, didn't care for Rhett, frankly. Mr. Knightly, Mr. Darcy, Mr. Tilney
John Thornton from NORTH AND SOUTH Orry Main from the other NORTH AND SOUTH.
Yours Aye,
Diane

Love Sir Percy, and of course Mr. Tilney. My first literary crush, at age 12, was Aragorn. Unlike Mr. Darcy, I can fix the hour: "I am Aragorn, son of Arathorn, and if by life or death I can save you, I will." *SWOOOOOOON* Same with Mr. Tilney: Chapter III, to be precise. He had me at nonsense.

My first big book crush as a little armadillo was on Rupert of Hentzau from reading Anthony Hope's 'The Prisoner of Zenda'. Dashing, immoral, witty, and terribly flashy with a sword. I was hooked, line and sinker. Here's Douglas Fairbanks Jnr as Rupert in the 1937 P of Zenda

Hmmmm the thread is Fictional Heros worth fainting for - Not Fictional Heros worth flopping for. Will someone please control usHHfan and get us a bucket and mop.

Especially if you flop the coin.

I honestly can't remember my very first literary crush (I realize that this thread isn't necessarily about "the first" but limiting myself to my teens will avoid an exhaustive list). Should have been Gilbert Blythe, but it took me years to see past the pestering. Although, one of Ms. Montgomery's other blokes, Dr. Roger Penhallow, was rather woof right from the get-go. As was Harry Flashman. BEAUCOUP WOOF.
I had (have) a soft spot for Tristram Shandy's Uncle Toby, but that nowhere near a faint. More like an antidote to Flashman.
Austen's gentleman have definitely remained in a class of their own over the years <3
Perhaps my first real flop was over Sydney Carton. <3 <3

I have to admit that I'm not a girl who faints. My litarary "heroes" are Horatio Hornblower (at least until he betrayed Lady Barbara with his french concubine) and Ross Poldark. But I also always liked Emma's Frank Churchill a lot. A big child (consider he was 23)and maybe s little bit thoughtless, but someone who makes you smile. I would chose him over Knightley the very moment. I never liked Knightley (not that I would dislike him, that's something else): Always perceived him as very self-rightous. Not only that he used to tell Emma how to behave, but he also judged letters of a person (Frank Churchill for example) he never met before.
And Jane Fairfax (besides Lady Barbara one of my favourite characters in literature) also fell for him. Big child or not: Frank always was so very concerned and caring about Jane. The piano forte he gave to her? Inprudently, but so very cute!
I guess that "20 years later" Frank and Jane might have been happier than Knightley and Emma.

I'm going to think about this next time I read Emma...I've never thought about the two couples in this fashion. Actually, I rarely ever consider how time may tell after happily ever after. Very interesting thought!

I actually had a Legolas crush when I was 11. I also have a Fred and George Weasley crush. Yeah, duh, and Lieutenant Pullings! He's 'tubular' and 'As honest as the rising sun.'
