Hi all,
You have probably noticed that the O/T subforums have not yet been recreated here on the new forum. It's on my To Do list, but I'm wondering if we need the same forums as before. Please let me know what you think in this thread.
Harry Potter - As there are no new movies or books coming out, I think this can go away as a dedicated forum. Any discussions we have about HP or JKR can go in O/T well enough. If they again become overwhelming, we can always add the subforum later.
Tolkien - I think we still need this with the Hobbit movies still coming out. We pervy dwarf fanciers don't want to swamp the boat with our bilge-drool.
Jane Austen - Do we discuss Jane often enough to need a separate forum? Does it need to be divided off from the regular discussion? We do that for stuff that becomes overwhelming so it doesn't take over O/T. I guess this is another one we can address if and when it becomes an issue.
Horatian Crafts - I think we will do this, as there seems to be a lot of enthusiasm for Regency garments and accessories. The original idea for this forum was to post Hornblower-related stuff, too, and I'd like to get back into that in my copious free time.
Fitness and Nutrition (was that what it was called? I can't remember) - A good topic, and it seemed like a popular enough forum. I'll bring this back if everyone thinks it will work.
I was also thinking we could add a forum for sports. Maybe have dedicated threads for various sports, or break them up by season. The Baseball Thread, The Hockey Thread, The Football (U.S.) Thread, The Football (Soccer) Thread, etc. <--- better names suggestions welcomed.
Let me know what you think, please!

I agree with you about the first five topics. A single forum for sports where people can start threads about various sports would work for me.

Personally, I don't think we need the Harry Potter one, but the others probably so. We do talk a lot of baseball, soccer (football), hockey & others, so it might be fun to do that.

I think the TOLKIEN theme will be hot for a while what with the new movies coming out in the next 2 years.
I'm for the Austen thread.
Your call, MAGS

What a great suggestion! I was already about to open a Jane-Austen thread but couldn't come up with either a proper name or a first post on it, t.b.h. As for the forums, while I won't post in or read each and everyone, I'd like to give my two cents to it as well:
Harry Potter - I agree with your thoughts of it not being immediately necessary without books or films to come out.
Tolkien - For the same reasoning as in the above, I'd say yes, we do need it.
Jane Austen - As much as I would like to have one, you can easily put it on hold first and see to it that more necessary things are being dealt with. When it becomes necessary, we can think about it again.
Horatian Crafts - Like the HP-sub-forum, it's one I'm not posting in, but I remember it was popular, so I can see the need for it. Now? A bit later? The posters should decide.
Fitness and Nutrition (was that what it was called? I can't remember) - Yes, that was the name. Again, nothing I'd post in but highly popular, so yes.
Yes, sports is definitely a good thing to be in their own subforum. Breaking the threads into one for each kind of sports is a good thing, so it's quite easy to discover what is of interest and what not.
Okay, that's just my two cents...

Couldn't Jane Austen discussions go in 'other stuff to do with the period' rather than being shunted away into 'off-topic' - after all, she's not completely off-topic, being a real-life person of the era who not only had Naval characters in her works but also had brothers in the RL Royal Navy.
Just a thought.

Just a thought. SF Hmm. I think if we're talking about Austen herself and real-life stuff, like her brothers, that could go in England Expects. If we're talking about the books themselves, they're not real-life, and they're not Age of Sail fiction, so By Land and By Sea is not appropriate. Maybe we need a Books subforum? (I would think of a more clever name) ETA: That could also be used for Jane Austen, Harry Potter/other JKR books, etc. This might be an idea whose time has come. I'd like to get other opinions, please.

May I suggest a Horatian Pets subforum? Cheers I know how popular the Horatian Pets thread is! But it's really one thread, at least for now. I don't have any pets so I don't really participate. Would a pinned thread in the O/T forum work, or do you feel like you need more than one thread?

I think either pinned or a subforum would do the trick........what about a subforum for animals/nature in general, and the pets could fall in that?
Cheers
Edit-Just a thought, the subforum could be called The Four Legged, Furry and Feathered Forum.......

I think one general sports sub-forum would do. Definitely yes for Tolkien, Crafts, Fitness & Nutrition, Critters, Horatian Holidays & Celebrations.

Also like the animal themed one. Either Liz's & Sandra's name would be cute for the name.

Mags, I agree with your thinking on the sub-forums. I like the idea of one for the four footed ones, too!

Oops, forgot about the birthday board! That will go on the list, of course.
I'm hearing you all about the Critters forum (I like that one). No love for a books forum?
