You may or may not be interested in this, but I thought I'd share it anyway as we're all interested in the period... The reenactment group who portray the crew of the Royal Naval ship HMS Acasta are requesting period-correct letters for their annual Mail Packet. If you're interested in trying to write something out for them, or just want to learn more, details may be found here. SF

I ordered a little more of that nice laid paper just for the occasion this morning!

Well, they've not transcribed ours, but it did make it into a couple of pics this year.
My flatmate and I wrote to Lord Nelson detailing the coastal preparations in case of an invasion by Napoleon, including a description of the Martello towers being built around the coast.

I sent two to Nelson, one as Fanny Nelson (which he quite properly rejected as captured on camera) and the other as Emma Hamilton.
I also sent one to the Welsh sailor, in Welsh. I forgot to include a translation and before anyone asks, Google Translate put together a fair Welsh version of what I wrote in English.

I'm giving this thread a little bump because it's that time of year again... the Acastas are going to have another Mail Packet! Like last year, they're going to be interpreting 1805. Here's a link with some information: 2017 Acasta Mail Packet ProjectI know a few of us over here have contributed in the past. If you haven't done so yet, give it a try. Every time I do, I learn so much. HMSCody

Oh Lord. Haven't a clue what to do this year (but then, it's nearly always been a struggle to think of anything interesting).
