It's probably a stupid question, but whenever I try to read something on either The Naval Chronicle Board or the Fandom-Board without being logged in, I get the message "oops, there was an error! You do not have permission to access this board." When I log in, everything is fine. Does this happen to everyone? Were those threads intentionally blocked to the non-Horatians/secret-forum-peepers? I like the idea of having some boards that are not accessible to the public - I'd feel more comfortable about posting personal things, pictures etc. even though I'd feel more tempted to post them in the Off-Topic-Board.

Hmm. I didn't mean to set it like that, but it seems I did! Let me know if there are any others. At this point we don't have any private forums.
I don't mind the idea--if anyone wants to discuss the idea, let's do it.
That being said, I'm always going to recommend you login when you can, because the forums are set up for members, not so much for guests. We try to be welcoming, hoping lurkers will become members, but with membership comes privileges, know what I mean?

Thanks for your answer, Mags. I think the two boards are the only ones. Is anyone else in favour of a private board for private matters here? About the logging in: I usually do when I am at home. But sometimes I pop in here for a second when I am bored waiting for someting at work, and I don't want to log in from my work Computer - it's not really allowed ...

I hear you, Dolphin! It's the same here, lurking here during the last minutes of my lunch break, and I discovered that there were log-in saved. No problem with that, and as I am not officially allowed to do this, I can hardly post a reply, so I've become patient again. Or learning to be so. I don't mind either way, and fortunately, logging in here is really easy, esp. from my pc at home. YAY.

Not to be an elitist, I do think it prudent to have some of the forum topics accessible only to members. This would include the convention topics as they involve travel plans and other pieces of information that you might not want shared with the general public, but you would want to share with the fellow members. At the moment, you have to log-in to access the Charleston topics. Thanks, Dolphin for bringing it up, and thanks, Mags, for opening the discussion... Otter

Right now, everything should be available to guests for reading, but not responding or posting.
I am open to the idea of making the convention forum available only to members, but at the same time, we want guests to be able to read them, in case they become intrigued and want to attend; but it's not like making people login or join the forum is a really high bar. If something shouldn't be available to the public, I would suggest it not be posted. PMs might be a better idea. Let me know if anyone wants anything in the existing forum deleted or even partially redacted (you should be able to edit your own posts, but I'm happy to help). I think travel plans for a past event can be deleted--what does everyone think?
