We are into 'the season'. Enjoy it but don't let it get out of hand.
Also, there is no rule that says one has to start January 2 for program. December 1 is just as good.
All the best!!
Yours Aye,
Diane

Hi All:
Restarting this thread.
How do you deal with the temptations of the season?
Yours Aye,
Diane

I'm not that tempted, to be honest. Perhaps it's my ripe old age, I don't know, but if it's not shortbread or a quick bread, I can leave it alone.
It's just the two of us for Thanksgiving, so I don't make a pile of food. We go to my sister's at Christmas and when I'm at someone else's house, I find it easy to stay away from junk.
Cheese platters, however, are another matter. Put out a spread of cheeses, fruits, nuts, and bread/crackers, and I'm helpless. I do find that taking small dabs of everything makes me feel like I've had plenty. Having a nice cup of tea alongside of a snack takes care of hunger, too.
What's the one thing you can't stay away from?

I also prefer a cheese platter over sweets.

I joined another round of the fitness/diet challenge that Karin (Lindseygirl) was my coach the last time around. She is not coaching this time around, but I have a very motivating coach that I HOPE will keep me on the straight and narrow. Lost that weight on the first challenge, but put it back on .... vicious cycle.
So instead of gaining another 10 during the holidays, I knew I had to take charge! There may be a few indulgences but I won't go hog wild like I usually do, especially at Thanksgiving. My hubby and stepson do not like turkey so we usually do ham. It is the sides that really get me into trouble.

It IS difficult when one is constantly bombarded with the stuff. Especially when the numerous parties, teas, etc. pop up. I try not to keep any of the stuff at home. Easier said than done I admit.

I also try not to keep things at home. I have noticed it is a lot easier now that the kids are not living at home and thankfully Mr. Ship is very good about not bringing stuff.

I put all the stocking stuffers in bags and some of them are candy. I won't eat from them because everything is numbered out and it's expensive to begin with, so I don't want to get another one to replace it.
I also agree with Phizz - the sides can kill it. Even doing turkey day and Christmas dinner in moderation gets to be too much food because you have a little of this and a little of that and before you know it, you plate runneth over.

I like to make fruit cakes and cookies at Christmas time. Most of it goes as gifts to people, but there are always a few cookies left and that's where I have a battle with the will-power ~Phizz

Yours Aye, Diane Recent testimonial: So, I went to one of those 'preseason holiday parties' (more like an advertising campaign). Mostly hors d'ouevres provided. Waiters wandering around with temptations on trays--mushroom caps, ribs (too messy), scallops. Didn't do TOO badly. Stayed away from the crackers and alcohol. Some of these treats are LOADED with cheese. Yours Aye, Diane

I used to make all the traditional foods for Thanksgiving and Christmas for our family. It took all day for two days, it was masses of food, and we'd have leftovers for weeks. Finally, in self-defense, I asked everybody what the one thing was that they HAD to have for the holiday, and just made the special requests. Oh was that so much easier! Any leftovers were eaten cheerfully, and nobody left the table in a food coma. When it's just my husband and myself, it's turkey, some kind of potato, and a veg or two. And a pie (pumpkin for Thanksgiving, mince for Christmas).

A pox on the person (probably someone at "Persil" or "Tide") who conceived the idea of ribs as an acceptable appetizer for a formal fete where everybody else's greasy fingers end up on your silk blouse, or some guy's unwiped kisser ends up on your cheek. Ugh!
Anyway, I have found that a glass or two of wine keeps me chatty and as such, keeps my mouth otherwise engaged and away from the onion dip.

Yeah, I like wine. It's just the calories I abhor. No one noticed except the server that I went for the diet soda and water. Water lasts longer.
