One of us must have The One Boxers and just don't realize it. I know I don't; they were still framed at the San Diego con and my husband doesn't wear those kind (and I certainly wouldn't fit in them). Quick, everybody, check your underwear drawer!
HMSCody They might have been swept into the laundry at some Premier Inn or Travelodge somewhere... Never mind, it's all part of the HH mystique! The Quest for the One Boxers... Indiana Jones and the Boxers of Doom... Harry Potter and the Boxers from Paul... The Da Boxer Code... My Dave pointed out how comical it is that there are a chorus of sexy, smouldering, hormonal young lads in 'Hornblower', and the one who sent us boxer shorts is sweet, kindly, cuddly Paul Copley! Awwwww!

Ok, I finally got to the post office. They price they gave me was close to what the website said. I was quoted $108 for shipping Priority Mail. Depending on the final weight of the package, it could be a few dollars more or less.
The UPS store said they could wrap it in a day or two. That's about $40. And from there I can bring it directly to the Post Office. The Post Office said it would be best if I can bring it on a Saturday after lunch. That's when they slow down.
Let's say the cost of everything in round numbers is $150 US.
PTP, I've already received 2 checks totaling about $50 to put towards the shipping. I haven't cashed the checks yet. Do you still want to cover the whole cost of packing and shipping? If yes, I will return the checks.
I'm not sure I could get the chair out this Saturday but may next Saturday. Shipping will take from 6 to 10 days.
Let me know what how you want to proceed.

Thanks so much, Sue. Yes, $150 is fine. I can cover the cost myself. It will be a good use of the left-over money from HUK2005. I use PayPal to pay for Ebay stuff and such, but not sure how to use it to send to an individual. I'll ask my son (my IT guru!) about that, or maybe you could message me and talk me through it? Hopefully I can get the money to you before the weekend.
Although you're not sending it as an item of merchandise (would you mark it as a 'gift'?), it might be best to call it a 'second-hand deckchair in cover' and mark it under the value for export/import duty, as it would be a shame - and unwarranted - to have that to pay at this end. I think that's around $50, but you'd have to check. There's no point on putting a high value on it, as it's worthless in real terms and is only valuable to our community. We could never buy another if it went missing!
Don't worry, although I think you said the Post Office don't insure large items like this, if it does go missing nobody is going to be devastated. The One Chair has been the star of many a good HH gig, and will be fondly-remembered. If it does arrive safely, it will be stored and well-cared-for in case we ever have another Portsmouth partay! So all is well.
Thanks again for everything,
Ruth

A message for Captainsueb... you'll find a right catalogue of ineptitude in your message inbox, but I think it's sorted out now. Apologies for brief loss of marbles. Blame the gunfire from across the river... x

Responded to your message. Everything is ok. Except for a few Paul Copley pictures, its doesn't look like much has been claimed except 2 flags. So if there's anything that anyone else sees that they would like, let me know. If the owner's of the items haven't claimed them by now, I doubt they will.
Let me know what you would like. First come, first serve. But most likely I can't ship anything out this week, including the chair. Mom took a fall in her kitchen Saturday and fractured her leg. She's going to be fine but it's going to take about 6 weeks for a full recovery. Hopefully she's leaving the hospital tomorrow for a week in a physical rehab center. Then she'll be home. And I will be her personal slave for the next few weeks. I've been through a hip replacement and a back surgery with her so I know what to expect.
Give me strength!!

Sending best wishes for a speedy recovery for your mom... and you.
Go ahead and use the money I sent to ship Matthew's shirt to Cabingirl. She is planning on coming to Baltimore and will probably drive. I'll let her know you will be doing that. After this year's get together, I'll take it from there. I promise I'll make sure it makes it to future gatherings.
As for the other items, I wouldn't mind having the wooden fan or the drunken sailor coasters.

Ok, going to try to get the chair out this weekend. Will see if it actually happens.
Mom is home from the rehab center and walking on a walker. Still can't drive so I'm her chauffeur and slave for a few more weeks.
Had another medical emergency this past weekend. Brought my Mom's cat Mabel in for blood work (hyperthyroid) and the vet discovered glaucoma in the left eye. Pressure was so high I had to bring her to an veterinary ophthalmologist ASAP. Only one working on a Saturday was about 50 miles away. Luckily I was familiar with area, did some per diem work there. Brought Mabel and got her treated. Had follow up appointment today. Found out she also had high blood pressure. Hopefully we'll get the blood pressure under control and it will help the glaucoma.
So know I'm taking care of Mom and HER CAT. I need a vacation.

Please be assured there's no rush for the chair. Only think of sending it if you need to get it out of your way! Otherwise please don't feel you need to worry about it until your seas are calm again and the wind is fair. Sending a big hug across the Pond, and very good wishes for Mum and Puss, Ruth

We were packing things to ship from Key West to Connecticut to have in readiness for HHUS2010. We clearly remember taking the shorts and the certificate out of the frame because it was broken. I would have sworn we packed and sent them to my mom's house with the rest of the con paraphernalia, but they were not in any of the boxes when we unpacked them the following year. Two boxes arrived at Chez Parents, but I have always thought we sent 3. Since nothing else has been reported missing in the subsequent years, I could just be imagining the 3rd box. Anyhow, the Official Undies of the Channel Fleet seem to be gone to the great laundry in the sky. My apologies to all.

Members of the Fleet
I am happy to report The Chair has begun its journey back to that big damp foggy island.
The Chair was packaged by HMS UPS Store and shipped via Royal United States Postal Service this afternoon.
Estimated shipping time is 6 -10 days. Plus an unknown amount of time waiting to go through customs. There IS a possibility I might be able to track the package after all. There is a tracking bar code on the paperwork but the Lieutenant at the Post Office could not guarantee if it would get scanned or not. I guess its not always required for some reason. Will keep you posted on tracking.
PTP, I forgot to throw in a Paul Copley pic. I will send separate in a envelope. Just in case the chair takes a detour to Cadiz at least you'll get a photo. Is there anything else you wanted? Most things haven't been claimed.
For those of you who have requested items, I'll try to message you over the weekend if I don't already have your addresses. I'll just ship thinks out and let you know the cost afterwards. Then you can send the shipping cost to me via check or Paypal. That way I don't have to run to the post office twice, once for pricing and one for shipping.
Will try to put together a list of what has been claimed/ requested and post it. So if anyone wants anything else, you can request it.
