So I wanted to open up discussions about the moot this year, since we're about 6 months out from our usual moot time frame.
I know that California, New Orleans and Vancouver were mentioned. Does anyone want to throw another location into the mix?
I would LOVE to be able to do an Airbnb/VRBO if we can. It is so much easier to keep the group connected, as well as having a central place for playing games, gathering, etc.

Do we know when we may want to do the moot? If the group chooses October again and everyone wants to come to California I may not be able to help with the planning as much. Last year it was really challenging to do Boston so close to my mom's visit at the end of the month.

I guess with all the uncertainty going on maybe we need to shelve any plans until it is clear to travel, etc. It may be that if we do do a moot, that it be in October in order to give people more time to plan.
I would still love to see everyone but life is on hold. We can pick up this discussion in May or June.

Agree things are way too uncertain at this time.

Yeah, I think we need to be prepared that it might not happen this year.

I will say I would be so disappointed not to be able to see everyone. I have such a great time.
I am not sure how quickly we could put one together once it is clear to travel -- but I will have the PTO to do any trip in the Fall.

Are we ready to call it yet? My time is very open, as my fall teaching will be asynchronous online for the most part, and we'll certainly have fewer than 50 in our group. Buuuut! It's not seeming like pulling everybody in from around the country is going to be a very cunning plan this year. And I say this as a person who lives in the Valley of the Plague. Utah has a seven-day average of 518 new cases per day and the rate is increasing. My county is one of the hardest hit. Yes, a lot can happen between now and October, but Vancouver is currently out because Canada rightly doesn't want our germs. New Orleans and California are both seeing increases.

Yeah I’m in the target age group and I don’t feel comfortable traveling anywhere just yet. Much as I’d love to see you all.

Same here. Our case count has been going up in the city and I expect it is only going to get worse. Hotels and restaurants are packed with tourists from LA and Orange county. People are acting like this is over now that businesses are starting to open. *sigh*

My state beats all of you! Florida has 10,000 new cases in a single day! What a bunch of f*cking morons. I've been traveling a lot for work the last 3 months, Brooklyn, South Carolina, Kentucky. Everyone in New York was wearing masks. Going out and being careful and the infection rates went down. When I traveled to SC then Kentucky and back home ( all by car) , hardly anyone wearing masks. Now all their rates are going up. Everyone out taking their summer vacations.
We need to pick a state with declining or steady rates, and one that won't make us quarantine upon arrival. But again, these things change so quickly. Overseas is out since we've been banned from Europe and Canada.

I’m not counting on anything being remotely normal for the foreseeable future. I’m diligent at wearing a mask when in stores and I move over or cross the street if someone is approaching on the sidewalk. Funny to think that 6 months ago entering a store while wearing a mask would have meant a call to the police. Now, a group of people not wearing masks has the same result. For Canadians it’s a strange situation that we can fly to the US and back with no problem but the land borders are closed to all traffic.
Now that getting together any time soon doesn’t look too promising I’m missing everyone. I’m not on Facebook so please say Hi and Stay Safe from me to the gang over there.

I don't plan on traveling before 2021 and possibly 2022.
NY, NJ and PA require 14-day quarantines for people traveling from certain states.
My JASNA region (and a lot of Austen-related places and organizations) are doing virtual things. Maybe we could do a virtual "watch the movies" on Zoom or something.

A few of us have been chatting and it seems at this point that it may not be viable, although I would love to go somewhere! It's just a matter of where will this pandemic be in a month or two. I too would be under a quarantine upon return if I flew. I have tons of PTO time and no way to use it all.
I have a Zoom account that we could do a moot on. We do a Jackbox virtual game night on it (PM me if you want to join - it's fun!) and its easy peasy to add movies, do games, etc.
