Wegman's?!! It's the best store ever! It's the happiest place on earth, besides BAAAAHHHHHHTH (for benefit of Nigel, who objects to my pronunciation of Bath).
Oh, HE should talk. He recently complained that can't properly pronounce "b@st@r&" anymore, like the way Blackadder could. He really has no reason to use the word much anyway, so that's a good thing!
Hmm, try this for Bath: like Goth, in a syllable and a half (holf). Or Bawrth, with less emphasis on the r.

Next duck in row lined up -- those days are available for me to take vacation. Sweet. So I would be off September 7-16.
Still working on the other ducks ~ I may think of taking Amtrak at a point in this trip. Never taken a train before. Pretty reliable? You basically pick a seat and sit - no assigned seats? Mags ~ how close does the train come to PHL airport?
I owe Nigel several cocktails for picking up the tab in Baltimore, so ......
Anyone up for the zoo and botanical gardens?

Amtrak doesn't go to the airport. You can change to the SEPTA airport train at 30th Street Station, which is the Philadelphia Amtrak station. Get off the Amtrak train, go up the stairs, across the concourse, turn right, up the ramp, up the stairs. The airport train drops you off right outside the terminal; it's great and one of the things SEPTA does right. And yes, seats are not assigned. You choose a class--coach or business class. Both are significantly more comfortable than airplane seats, though some of the train cars are old and beat-up. I've never taken business class but I aspire to do so someday. That being said, Amtrak can run notoriously late. The Northeast Regional is pretty reliable, but I can't speak for the other lines.

Great, thanks for the info Mags. I’ve always wanted to do a train, which is something quite foreign in Florida. Trying to decide if I should try and head to Buffalo after Erie or just head to Philly by train, poke around the city (never been) and then head to the Jersey shore for the wedding. It all depends on that elusive AA flight from Buffalo to Philly. I see AA charges for bags on top of the fare so we’re looking at $200+ for a one way ticket. Just looked - SW is $211 one way. Crazy.
ETA: Forgot to ask -- are most people departing on Sunday or Monday?

I think we'll probably be heading back Sunday, but probably later in the day. I am going to try to fly back to CA on Monday.
Vacation has been approved at work. Yipee!

I think we'll probably be heading back Sunday, but probably later in the day. I am going to try to fly back to CA on Monday. After discussing it at lunch with a friend of mine, she convinced me to head up to Buffalo. Considering I would spend that much on the train and hotels if I stayed in Philly a few days as opposed to that one-way flight; well, it made sense. I hadn't thought of it that way. Duh. So I will probably head out of Erie as well on Sunday afternoon. It's only 1 1/2 hours to Buffalo from there. Yeah!!! I had started making all these plans and forgot the one most important thing: are those dates available on the PTO calendar? And low and behold, they were!

The group passes (to see the ships and for other activities like lectures) are separately ticketed for each day. But if you guys are heading out later in the day, you will probably still want them for Sunday. We'll definitely have our "dinner and a movie" activity on Saturday night, then.
I will be checking out Monday morning. It's a long drive back to Philly so I'll be leaving no later than 11, I think.
P.S. There will be a beer garden at the convention center.

Beer garden? Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeees! We may never see Dave and Nigel again ....
There are several wine/beer tastings in Erie that I glanced at over the weekend. Is the maritime museum on the agenda?
Do you have a general idea of how many people are coming? I'd like to be a little something something for the crew. 44 days!

Plans are firming up. Mr. Ship's training in Cleveland got postponed until later in the month so he won't be able to join us... good thing I was not holding my breath. LOL!
Talked to Cabingirl, Bucky and Mayhem and we are all set up. Woohoo!

Are you guys all doing one room? I am getting some runaround from the hotel...I'm thinking we should just book rooms and not try to get a block, especially as I can't tell them how many rooms we need. Sounds like not a whole lot.
Yes, the museum is on the schedule. It's part of the "wander around and look at the ships" part. The passes will cover admission to the ships and the museum, and there are some lectures and things.

Yes, we are sharing a room. I imagine we'd only need about 5-6 rooms if there are 2-3 to a room. Did you say this hotel has kitchens?

The Cabingirl/boy clan will need their own room. Estelle, Bucky and I will need our own. Not sure about the rest of the group.
If you think booking without trying to get a block will work, I have no problem with that. The earlier the better though, just to make sure we are all together.

Let me see if I can get hold of anyone today. I'm kind of attached to this hotel because they have the kitchens, so I want to make it work, but they say "Someone will call you" and no one ever does.

If they have kitchens, that'll be nice. I can make a diet friendly breakfast every morning.
Does the hotel have a workout room? I recently rejoined Weight Watchers and need to get those activity points in. I hate working out on vacation, but I will be up in PA and NJ for 11 days straight. I know we may be walking a lot as well but figure I need a little more than casual walking.
40 days to go!
