Hi all,
I need to start calling the hotels, etc. Some expressed interest in the lakeside resort, but from reading their website, it might be hard to get a block of rooms. I'd like an idea of how many will come or are thinking about it, so I can contact hotels. If you are coming to the moot or still thinking about it, please vote in the poll. I also posted it on the Horatians group on Facebook, so if you voted there, please don't vote here, too (and vice versa). If you definitely can't come, please don't vote (though you can comment if you want). Thanks!

I voted for the lakeside resort but I am happy with either choice and there was no option for that.
Mr. Ship as usual is expressing interest but he is a flake. lol! Although if there is fishing at the lakeside resort, that might push him over the fence.
Not sure Cabingirl ever gets over here but we have already been making plans. I am planning on flying to Pittsburgh and driving with them. I'll probably spend a couple of days with them ahead of time.

Like, Ship. I voted for the lakeside resort, but either is good.

Still trying to figure if I can do both events in such a short span, especially with the way coverage issues are happening at work. Probably won't be able to commit until mid-summer. Maybe by then things will be solidified, and I can see if both are viable. Of course, I will have to lean a little towards the wedding if it comes to which one I can afford, since I am in the wedding party and have already bought my dress!! Would love to do Erie though.

Either a hotel or the lakeside resort would be great. It's always so much fun to get together with everyone and catch up.

I'd do either one. Whatever works out best cost- wise and convenience for the group.

I think Mags meant it to coincide with the Tall Ships thing, which is happening Sept 8-11.

Yes, that's right. The dates I'm looking at are Sept. 7 (Wednesday) through 11 (Sunday).
Unfortunately the bayfront hotels are all reallllly spendy (like $289/night and up) during the festival. I've located another couple of good prospects and will contact them soon, but first wanted to get opinions--IS that too spendy? I feel like it is, but am willing to be persuaded otherwise. It WILL be nice to be by the bayfront, but there are others that aren't too far away. Cars will be required, unfortunately.
The moot itself shouldn't be too costly as this is an "UnCon." The cheaper hotel is a. MUCH cheaper b. seems nice (I won't be able to go check in person) c. has free breakfast/wifi d. indoor pool (YAY) e. is very very close to the entrance of Presque Isle State Park. It's the kind of place we usually get, but doesn't have a bar (booooo). If we get that hotel, I will be renting a full suite that will be our clubhouse of sorts. It has a full kitchen and a flatscreen TV for movie watching. Room for cards and games.
I think that's why they're not giving us a break on the room costs--we're not renting a conference room at all.
The only prepaid organized activities will be going to the Parade of Sail, pizza and a movie, visits to see the ships (that will be semi-organized) and an optional day sail ($40). Everything else will be Pay As You Go. Planning a "welcome" dinner but not prepaid at a bayside restaurant...if I can get reservations!

I am of the opinion that that is a little too pricey for the hotel, but I totally understand that they hike their prices because the demand is there. At this point, I really want to go but am a maybe bordering on a no. Where is everyone flying into ~ Pittsburgh? Would anyone want to share a car? Does anyone need roommates? These are factors that I need to consider, especially when I have to turn around and head to Tracy's wedding that Wednesday (i.e., stay in PA or fly home and back up to PA two days later, etc.).

Last time I looked, Southwest flies into Erie, so I'll do that.

I am also up for the cheaper hotel and if we need to, I am willing to rent a car.
I am planning on flying into Pittsburgh a couple of days ahead of the moot to spend with the cabingirls. Mr. Ship has to be in Cleveland September 12 for work so he is seriously considering joining us. I know he's said that before so I am not holding my breath. If he decides not to then I'll need a roommate.

Just to clarify, Mags... do the moot events actually begin on the 7th (Wednesday) or on Thursday the 8th?
Thanks!
