Thanks for the info and research Liz. They look uber interesting. We are historical hobnobbers, you know.
Anyone interested in a ghost tour? I want to do those every time but we end up so tired at the end of the night!
Stupid question (as it's been a while since I stayed in Canada, are the outlets the same or do we need convertors?

I've taken a ghost tour in Quebec and it was fun.....there is an interesting looking early evening (7:30) tour of the Citadel that might be fun as well, and would finish in time for a nice dinner and drinkies......
Yes, our outlets are the same......however, make sure you check your mobile phone provider's roaming policy though.....you might get a nasty shock if they charge for roaming in Canada......

I just checked with my cell phone service about calling in Canada. I have Sprint and they have this "Open World" plan that gives no roaming and able to have 1G data for when they go out of the US. Even better - Sprint gave it to me for free as being a customer. If you have Sprint, look into this and see if your cell phone has similar.
Everything seems great! Thanks Liz!

Oh, I have Sprint so I will have to check with them as I have been with Sprint for a long time.
Been trolling Air Canada and they are having a spring sale but I don't think it stretches quite to September yet. Always looking though!
160 days to go!

I have T-Mobile and when I was in Montreal, data and calls were included with no additional fee. They sent me a text message when I arrived to remind me to turn on roaming.

Things to do in Quebec City The above link is something of interest for some of us. Me, the over planner, got some packing cubes and find I can pack him into a carry on. I may still bring a checked bag. I am on the fence about that because I usually do a checked bag, but like the ease of a carry on. But, also wonder if I will have enough room on the trip home.
Question for carry on enthusiasts: can you have 2 clear 1 liter bags for toiletries or only have one?
I also rechecked google maps and on the other side of the hotel is a pharmacy for those things we need. 😎 The hotel also has a pool and a spa. I thought it might be cool to do something there, anyone else game on that?

One clear quart-sized bag for liquid toiletries per person. Remember that you can separate non-liquid stuff and you don't have to show it, so it doesn't have to go into the bag. Each item should be no more than 100ml/3.3 ounces. A half-filled 5 oz. bottle will be confiscated, although it's less than 3.3 oz, because the bottle holds more than that. Decant into smaller bottles if needed. Or buy travel sizes (that's what I do).
It is likely that you will be on a smaller regional jet for at least part of the trip and the gate agents will make you gate check your bag as there is limited room in the overhead. So you might want to plan to check a bag from the get-go. But still don't make it huge and difficult to handle. Even when I check a bag, it is technically carry-on size as I find anything larger and heavier difficult to handle.
If you decide to carry on, make sure there is nothing breakable or valuable in your largest bag, in case you are made to check it. Keep that stuff in your personal bag, and make sure your personal bag isn't huge or you'll have to check that, too. Or better yet, leave the valuable stuff at home. The best travel advice I ever received was "don't take anything you will cry over if it is lost or stolen."
Do I need to bump the packing thread? ;-)

When you book, you will be able to tell from the icons whether there is a baggage car on that train. Unless they change their policy (check when you book), Via allows 2 checked bags, up to 23 kg or 50lbs each, for free. If you go the carry on route, they allow one small item and a large one up to 23kg/50 lbs, or 2 smaller bags up to 11.5 kg/25 lbs. Here's their webpage on baggage: www.viarail.ca/en/travel-info/baggage.
If you fly from Montreal to QC, you will be on a smaller jet (or turbo prop in some cases......)
