Thanks for the PM Bucky. Count me in then. Most excellent! Gaby and I are happy to have you as a roommate! Huzzah. This is going to be a lot of fun! Wednesday, maybe we can get whomever is already there and checked in for a group dinner and maybe some cocktail & pool time, depending on the weather?

What time are you guys getting in? I haven't bought my plane ticket yet. Would love some Wed. pool time if possible.

I haven't got my ticket yet, but it looks like the cheapest alternatives would have me arriving at around 7PM on Wednesday.
A more radical choice (not any cheaper though) would be an overnight flight, arriving around noon on Wednesday. I am actually considering it.

Mags - If you go on the CHS airport website, on the bottom there is a link for Low Fare Finder you can plug in your info and it'll bring up a bunch of flights. I plugged in PHI to CHS and they have non-stop flights on USAir for $296 (with all fees and taxes). Gaby - wow, that is quite a range in flight variations! It is hard flying against the time zones, for sure. I've never taken a red eye, but if you can sleep on planes I guess it wouldn't be too bad! The airport is fairly small (I say small, as compared to say Orlando Int'l). They do not allow people to sit in arriving flights for pick ups. You either have to park or sit on the cell phone call lot so that when your arrivee is ready to be picked up, they call you and you drive from that lot to the arriving flight pick up area. You are not allowed to park or leave your car at any time in arriving flights. So I figure if people would like to be picked up, we can exchange cell phone numbers and we can compile lists of arrival/departure times. That'll save on taxi fees. I plan on bringing a rolling cooler for beverages and snacks since there isn't a fridge in the room. Also bought some bottled water for our excursions. The hotel website says that the pool closes at 9:00 PM, and some of the reviews mention that they adhere to that time. They must lock the door. I do hope it is heated! I had asked Estelle back in the day about using the conference room to do some workouts in the morning in order to burn off some of the yummy food we're going to eat and she said yes. Not sure if anyone would be interested. The hotel has a fitness room but sometimes the machines are already taken and being used during the entire time you set aside for burning some calories! If the pool is open early and heated, I can always swim some laps.

I am not all that crazy about overnight flights because I can't sleep on planes, but it would give me an extra half day of fun. I would definitely need to take a nap when I arrived. One problem I see with that plan is being able to check in early enough so I could crash for a couple of hours.

Great to see that so many shipmates thought to be lost at sea will actually muster to their division in Charleston. And AF, best wishes to you and the mister on your project for the back half of the term! I'll keep your family in my prayers.
I haven't bought my tickets yet, as I'm trying to squeeze in a visit to northern VA to catch up with the major and family for a couple of days before blowing in to Charleston, but I plan to be there Wednesday afternoon-ish. Yes to dinner, pool, cocktails, in any order.

Bucky--yeah, I found that flight, too! That's why I'm not driving! I did consider it. But if I can get a cheap, direct flight, there didn't seem to be any point, other than having a car at the other end.
The flight I'm looking at gets in at 3:09. By the time I get picked up, check in, and get organized at the hotel, I doubt I'd be able to be at the pool until 4 or 4:30 at minimum, which doesn't leave much time before happy hour and dinner. I suppose if pool time is later, then I can do it. Or just stick with happy hour and dinner. ;-)

We can see when people are arriving and see what time would be good for everyone. I have been reading reviews of the hotel (just a fun pastime) and basically the only restaurant within walking distance is the actual hotel restaurant and Waffle House. So if we can make sure we have enough drivers, we can find somewhere to eat Wednesday night. We can always eat at the hotel. Is anyone else driving? I know Estelle will have a car. Pam? I can fit 5 in my SUV. Jan - in reading the reviews, a lot of people commented that they were allowed to check in early. So that may be a reality and you can take a long nap upon arrival.

I'll be coming in on Tuesday, as it will take all @#$^&* day to get there (thanks United!) So I'll be up for anything that anyone wants to do on Wednesday, I do want to do a bit of looking around downtown during the am and early pm. ~Phizz

Pam and I look forward to welcoming you all to Charleston! I'll have my Sienna and am available for picking up folks from the airport. I'm arriving in Charleston on Sept. 28 and will be leaving on Oct. 7 (my family will be congregating on the Isle of Palms for the week for a reunion, including my kiddies who live in Honolulu, Portland, Lake Jackson, New York, and Atlanta).
I can't wait to see you all. And I'll be thinking of y'all who are unable to come.

I will not be able to be there this year but will certainly be thinking of all of you as you enjoy the awesomeness that is Charleston (made all the moreso with the addition of Hornblower)!
