I will not be able to be there this year but will certainly be thinking of all of you as you enjoy the awesomeness that is Charleston (made all the moreso with the addition of Hornblower)! Awwwww that's too bad! I was hoping for some more dance lessons! ~Phizz 'Fraid too many funds were funneled into my Regency addiction this year. 'Tis a noble cause, to be sure, but I sure will miss all of you!

We'll miss all that are not able to attend. We shall hoist a tot of rum in your honor.
Got Friday night's menu from Gaby -- yum! Decisions, decisions. Anyone know if this is a dress up kind of dinner?
35 days to go!

Bucky - Yay Fate! Ship - Sad about Spain, but the Iberians' loss is the Horatian's gain.
You late types are making me wistful and antsy at the same time. i have NO vacation left ( i had to use it all to qualify for more free leave). It's an irony - am I repeating myself, that my knee is great now, but there will be no way to use it in its natural habitat of walking around with shipmates. Wahhhhh! Dang.
So happy for you last minute entries boarding the ship though.

It looks like it might be easier for me to get to Charleston from Canada with United than it is for you to get from the west coast, Phizz.
I'm booked to leave home at 6 AM on Wednesday the 2nd and arrive in Charleston at 12:03 PM on United UA4255, via Newark. Could I put my hand up for a pick up at the airport?
Anyone know if this is a dress up kind of dinner?
Unless there are any great objections I thought I'd bring along my uniform.
And speaking of the tot of rum, it was on July 31, 1970 that the Royal Navy discontinued this practice so on that day last month my classmates in the Mutiny and Punishment on the High Seas course at Oxford pledged to raise a glass to its memory.
It's good to hear that you have recovered nicely AE and, there's always next year.

I will be cruising into town just about that time, within that half hour (Noon to 12:30 ish). Am thinking by the time you deplane and get your bags, I may be able to steer over there from US 17. Wearing uniforms would be cool, but I don't have one. I guess a nice pair of slacks and shirt will do. AE ~ wish you were able to come too!

I had it all planned out nicely so that I would arrive around 5:00, with only one stop-over in Houston ... well, United had other plans and now I'm stuck with 2 stop-overs! Arrrgggh! Oohh, please do wear your uneeform!!! Hugs, ~Phizz

I'll be there Wed and will be happy to do airport pickups. I'll have room for 3 besides me. Not sure I'll leave the house before 10, so I expect to be there 3:30ish. Can't wait to see everyone. My cell is: 919-244-5932, in case anyone needs to get hold of me. Can't wait see everyone. We will certainly miss those of you who can't attend. :-( You'll be with us in spirit. Darn life for occasionally getting in the way of Horatian gatherings.

Pam -- I got a nifty Ninja blender. Do you think we need a back up blender?!! Forgot that Sue is driving, so we should have more than enough cars. I am going to scout out restaurants while I tool up US 17 towards the hotel for a place to eat on Wednesday night. Estelle - just a question. My travel pak directions have me going US 17 North over the bridge over Ashley River towards downtown, then making a left and doubling back on US 17 South to get to the hotel. Does that sound right?

Bucky,
Yes, please bring yours. Wouldn't want to not have margaritas, contingency plan and all.
Can't wait! This is getting real now!

Nice to see all the last minute additions! I will be driving into Charleston Wed before dinner time. I'll spend Monday and Tuesday in St Augustine doing some hotel scouting. The hotel folks in St Augustine aren't as nice as they were in Key West. They don't want to negotiate at all with me on meeting space! Some aren't even returning my calls for a proposal. I think its because we're a small group. I've got a neighbor who has a real estate friend who lives in St Augustine. He's going to help me find a possible alternate meeting space if possible. If not we may be at a Mom and Pop hotel instead of one the chains. But all that matters is that we're together! Looking forward to seeing everyone. CaptSueb

Very true! By the way Sue, my MapQuest directions have me taking the I-295 bypass around Jacksonville. It takes you about 12+ extra miles around Jax instead of staying on I-95. I asked my boss (who drives up I-95 to see his folks frequently) and he said there is no reason to take the bypass unless you are stuck in major traffic on I-95 approaching Jax. He just made the trip two weeks ago and said there were no problems. The bypass just makes a big loop around and reconnects with I-95 eventually. Just thought I'd share that as it may save you a few minutes, miles and gas to just stay on I-95.
