Just got a Facebook notification about a post on a friend's timeline: "Jack Hammond has commented on (person's name)'s timeline" And I thought, "No he didn't, he died on the beach when the Hotspurs were fighting it out with Uncle Charlie!"

Had an interesting talk with an older gentleman at Starbucks this morning. I was wearing the t-shirt from the 2006 con that has a great picture of a tall ship on the back and he asked me about it. He had read the Hornblower books, but had not heard about the TV series. I told him about us getting together every year and he wanted to know how we all met .... quite an enjoyable time talking to someone who doesn't say what?!?

I just got home from a lunch celebrating the new season of Murdoch Mysteries......I sat next to a couple from Maryland who travel up here several times a year to tour sites the series was filmed, so I got chatting to them.......the man works at the Annapolis Naval Academy Museum as an historian, so we had a lovely conversation about Hornblower......he is a fan.......
Cheers

This is an instance when being a Hornblower buff is so fun!

I had not strictly speaking a Horation moment, but a "Master and Commander" moment today, when someone called the company I work for "an old sailing boat" as opposed to a modern yaught and I replied in my best Crowe-voice: "no, it is not old - it's in its prime." (FYI: we have nothing to do with boats or the sea (alas!), only books!)

Horatian moment from this summer: a particularly tough fish gets served for dinner. My mother: 'How am I supposed to cut that?'
Me and my Crumpeteer sister in unison: 'QUICK CHOPPING MOTIONS, MOTHER'.

I lot of times I feel a bit like. Moutautant (yeah, I spelled it wrong), when I am at work. I have to say, "name?" And I feel like I and in the square at the village in the Wrong War. Anthony Sher's voice always go through my head when I say that. The look of his "crazy eyes" makes me smile, even if the customers sometimes try patience.

I've kind of liked Sonata Arctica for over 10 years, but only yesterday did I come around to listen to White Pearl, Black Oceans. It really, really reminds me of Hornblower for some reason, maybe especially Mutiny & Retribution, so this is now my "Archie-song."
It's not everyone's cup of tea, and some of you have probably heard it before. Still, felt like sharing.

I was watching a rerun of CHIPS on MeTV the other day. In this episode, Ponch and John were getting ready to go sailing with some girls they met at the beach. John referred to Ponch as being like Horatio Hornblower. I think this is an episode from 1979.
