Nothing surprises me about Murdoch Mysteries...
We are about halfway through Season Six. I about died when he brought out the metal detector.
Gush, gush. Sigh. Oh, and I still lurve me some Jonny Harris. Flop.
Is it me, or has Julia lost most of her formerly drop-dead-gorgeous wardrobe?

I had quite the experience on Saturday........Shaftsbury Films hosted an open day at their studio which houses the Murdoch sets and backlot.....Needless to day, I took some pictures, some of which I'll post as soon as I figure it out.......however, I met Yannick Bisson and will post the link to a picture i had taken with him (it will be posted by the production company tomorrow) and ended up having dinner at a pub hosted by the Murdoch Appreciation Society, with Brian Kaulback, who plays Constable/Sgt Hodge at my table.........I also met Lachlan Murdoch (Constable Higgins) and Sean Harraher (Constable Worseley).....apparemtly, Arwen Humphreys, who plays Mrs Brackenreid, was there, but I didn't see her. It was quite a day, seeing the morgue, with all the rather gory props, the station house, jail cells, etc.........I reminded me of our Hornblower gathering, with fans in costume.......
More to come......

OK, some pictures: Me with Higgins and Woresley In the Morgue: (I'd comment on this one, but it happened in series 7, so I don't want to give away any spoilers......) That is enough of the gory stuff.....

That is a truly excellent way to spend a Saturday in Toronto, Liz. I think it beats even a Jays game or a trip up the CN Tower. So, tell us more ..... how did you find out about it, was there a crush of people, what did you eat at the pub, was Jonny Harris there too, are Yannick's eyes really that gorgeous? Thanks .... for making us all jealous.

I found out about it on Twitter, but, even though it was a free event, there were limited tickets and when I saw the production company's tweet, 45 minutes after it was posted, the tickets were all gone. Then last week, I was on Facebook and someone posted at 2 AM that she had obtained a ticket for a friend who couldn't go, so the first person to PM her could have the ticket.....I lucked in.......there was a huge crush of people, a lot of whom were in costume.....the tours were in 2 hour groups, 9-11, 11-1 (my group), 1-3, and 3-5, and they were spoken for within half an hour, with a waiting list. Jonny Harris wasn't there, unfortunately, but yes, Yannick's eyes are that gorgeous.....they are Robert Lindsay-esque.......Thomas Craig was at an event the next day......Some of the people at that event came from the UK, Italy and Australia, in addition to the people from Canada and the States......se what I mean about reminding me of the Horatian gatherings?
As for the pub, I had Chicken Alfredo......and beer......since the tour ended at 1, I took the subway to the Danforth for lunch at another pub and sat in their garden......I was next to an absolutely emormous tree that you just don't see in Toronto....it was at least 5 feet across.....I asked the waitress if they had any idea how old it was and was told it was 200+ years, so at the time of Murdoch, it was already a mature tree.....and it was a black willow, which usually don't live that long....
I also got to make a suggestion....the season they are doing now is up to 1902......I asked if they make it to 1904, if they would do an episode around the Great Toronto Fire, which wiped out most of what is now the financial district......the reason I was interested is my great-grandfather, Matthew McCartney, was with the Toronto Fire Department (a platoon chief, I believe) and was involved in fighting the fire......they said it was more than likely they would incorporate it.....
All in all, a very memorable day....
Cheers
