I watched this particular episode which featured Wilfred Laurier, our Canadian Prime Minister from 1896 to 1911, as a character. It occurred to me that the desk sergeant looked familiar but his name didn't come immediately to mind. ( Where's that 'doh!' smilie when you need it??) I did figure out that the 'actor' was our current PM Stephen Harper before the show ended so here's a Youtube clip of his appearance.

You probably didn't recognise him because he hasn't got his usual concrete hair........another big fan of the series is Ontario's outgoing Lt Governor, David Onley (appeared in an episode as Sir Oliver Mowat).....he was a guest at the event on Sunday......
Cheers

Well, season 8 is under way and I have really enjoyed the first 2 episodes.......they were a 2 parter and were darker, with an edge to them.....on Monday, the 3rd of November, the 100th episode will be broadcast here and the CBC is doing a special screening at the CBC Broadcast Centre.....I've got my ticket.....there is going to be a panel discussion with the cast after the screening......
BTW, the series is now in syndication and I gather quite a few US stations have picked it up........
Cheers

Stupid Amazon Prime only has the first 4 seasons included in the subscription.

What do the fans call themselves, Liz ..... Murdoch Maniacs, Murdoch-ians, Murdoch Mystresses If the special screening is on a big screen it might just compare with Hornblower on a theatre screen. Hmmm ..... I wonder if the producers have thought about having Robert Lindsay as some character or other .......

Hmmm ..... I wonder if the producers have thought about having Robert Lindsay as some character or other ....... Murdochians seems to be the one used the most....... Yes, I'm not sure if the screening will be in the Glenn Gould Theatre, the Atrium or one of the studios, but there should be a theatre screen.....I hope.....the website has a warning that the ticket will get invitees in, but not guarantee a seat, so get there early....that makes me suspect it is the Atrium...... Well, I have suggested an episode idea, and they do use a lot of British actors.....and Robert has said he likes Toronto....... Cheers

Well, went to the screening of the 100th episode last night......me and 1,000 other people......the doors opened at 7.....I went downtown and had a late lunch, then decided I'd have a look to see if a line up had begun at around 5......there were already about 100 people there, some of whom brought garden chairs........the queue eventually went outside and around the block......some came from Kentucky, Florida and Calgary.....once we were finally in, there was only seating for about 2/3, so it was standing room only.....the episode was very good and there was a cast Q&A session after, with Yannick Bisson, Helene Joy, Jonny Harris, Thomas Craig and Georgina Reilly, along with Maureen Jennings, Christine Jennings who is head of Shaftsbury Productions, Peter Mitchell, the head writer and producer, and someone from the CBC' programming department, whose name I missed.....
Re the episode, highlight if you want to be spoiled: Murdoch and Dr Ogden get married, but not without incident......including a ride on a horse......
We saw the regular broadcast, so, even the adverts were fun to watch. I'm glad I recorded it on the PVR, because now I'm going to watch it again to catch what I missed the first time....
Cheers

I should have known where to find other fans of the series... This series is shown in our national broadcasting channel atm, replacing the English "Heartbeat"... I just think it's awfully cute series... I find it really hard to believe they would have such many murders to solve in Toronto (maybe it's just the prejudice of thinking Canadians are such nice people), but I just love the series... Murdoch is a lovely, religious character, and his love interest seem to be drifting away...

Glad you are enjoying it, Rum Inspector......at the screening, they said it has now been sold to 120 countries, which isn't bad for a Canadian series (well, unheard of, actually).....there were also comments about the murder rate in late 19th, early 20th century Toronto......the Executive Producer/Head Writer made a tongue in cheet comment about the murders just weren't widely reported.......the series probably comes close to the murder rate of today......having said that, it has a long way to go before it comes anywhere near the body count of Murder, She Wrote......
Cheers
